What to Do When Oyster Mushrooms Grow Green Mold? Causes and Control Methods
Recently, Li Zhibao, an oyster mushroom grower from Zhumiao Village, Nancheng Town, Xiajin County, Shandong Province, called for advice: This year the oyster mushroom market is good, with a wholesale price of 1.5 yuan/jin, so he invested 20,000 jin of substrate at once to cultivate oyster mushrooms, but now some green things have grown on the oyster mushroom cultivation bags. Experienced people say it is green mold, and he does not know what to do. The author's reply is as follows:
Green mold is a major disease in edible mushroom cultivation, mainly occurring on mushroom blocks that have not yet been colonized or on culture substrate that has not been thoroughly sterilized. Green mold is prone to breeding in acidic and relatively humid environments. Its spores spread quickly through the air and reproduce rapidly. If not handled promptly, the losses will be severe.
Control and treatment measures: Lower the temperature and humidity of the mushroom house, increase ventilation, and cover and press the moldy areas with plant ash to prevent mold spores from flying up and spreading. First fumigate the room with a 3% Lysol solution or 3% formaldehyde solution, then wash the moldy areas with a 1% potassium permanganate solution. After sprinkling potassium permanganate granules on the moldy areas, spray water around the outside of the moldy areas. Take 9 parts quicklime and 1 part carbendazim, mix with an appropriate amount of water, and wash and scrub the moldy areas. Soak the moldy areas with 5% limewater. After the mold disappears, drain off the limewater and add new substrate. Inject a 1:200 kemeiling solution into the green mold inside the substrate bags or wash and scrub the green mold on the bed surface. Spray a 1:800 benomyl solution on the moldy areas of the substrate bags. Brush the moldy areas with 95% alcohol or kerosene, ignite and burn them, then dig them out and fill with new substrate. Spray the moldy areas with a 3% Lysol solution, wash and wipe the tools, then dig out the mold. Each time you dig, wash and wipe the tools once. After digging out, fill in culture substrate and spawn. This method can completely cure late-stage mold. When cultivating with raw substrate, add 100 grams of kemeiling per 100 kilograms of culture substrate to completely eradicate mold breeding.
