How to fertilize cotton reasonably? A detailed practical guide

Apply flower and boll fertilizer heavily. The flowering and boll stage is the most vigorous growth period in the entire life of cotton. Both the vegetative growth and reproductive growth of cotton reach their peaks, and nutrient demand is greatest. Timely fertilizer supplementation plays a key role in promoting cotton bolls, preventing premature senescence, setting more bolls on all three fruiting branches, and increasing boll weight. In fertilization, the cotton plants should be kept from excessive vegetative growth. For cotton fields with high fertility and vigorous plant growth, topdressing can be delayed until the full flowering stage when 1 to 2 large bolls have formed on the lower part of the plant; for cotton fields with low fertility and weak growth, flower and boll fertilizer should be applied early and heavily at the initial flowering stage. Generally, in mid-to-late July, apply urea per mu

Generally, in mid-to-late July, apply 10 to 20 kg of urea per mu. After topdressing, timely irrigation and chemical regulation should also be carried out according to the weather and cotton growth conditions.

Apply supplementary top fertilizer. In the late growth stage of cotton, if nutrient deficiency is found, such as premature reddening at the top of the main stem, premature yellowing of leaf color, and premature senescence of cotton with loosely set top bolls, supplementary top fertilizer should be applied in time. Generally, in mid-to-late August, use a mixed solution of 1% to 1.5% and 3% potassium dihydrogen phosphate for foliar topdressing 2 to 3 times, with an interval of 7 days each time, spraying 50 kg of fertilizer solution per mu on the leaves.

Pay attention to the application of boron fertilizer. Cotton is relatively sensitive to boron. Applying boron fertilizer can prevent and control the "buds but no flowers" disorder in cotton and increase the boll setting rate. Whenever the available boron content in the soil is lower than 0.5 mg/kg, boron fertilizer should be added. As a base fertilizer, use 0.5 to 0.75 kg of borax per mu mixed with organic fertilizer and phosphate fertilizer. For foliar spraying, generally use 50 kg of 0.2% borax solution per mu, or use 50 g of Jindilai liquid boron fertilizer or 20% Jindilai instant boron fertilizer diluted in 50 kg of water, and spray on the leaves twice from the squaring stage to the initial flowering stage, with an interval of about 7 days each time.
