What are the key technical points for cotton sowing?
Around April 20 is the golden season for cotton sowing in normal years. However, because the harvest of mustard tuber was relatively late this year, the mustard tuber harvest is closely connected with the cotton sowing season, which puts both labor and time for clearing the mustard tuber field under considerable pressure. For this reason, it is recommended that cotton farmers promptly carry out the following farming tasks.
1. If, after the mustard tuber harvest, the cotton sowing season has already arrived, and the mustard tuber field still needs to be prepared or you still have to wait more than five days before cotton sowing, you might as well make good use of the time after the mustard tuber harvest to raise seedlings in nutrient pots. This not only saves seed, but also makes it easier to keep the seedlings alive, and can also help achieve early seedlings and strive for a high yield.
2. Because hybrid insect-resistant cotton seed is relatively expensive, sun the seed for two days before sowing, and also pick out the broken seeds and immature seeds (concentrate them for seedling raising to make full use of them), then sow.
3. Apply seed fertilizer. Before cotton sowing, scatter 10 kg of 45% compound fertilizer per mu within the width of the plastic film. Whether using hole sowing through punched holes or furrow sowing at dibbled points, no fertilizer should be placed close to the seed, so as to avoid fertilizer damaging the sprout and affecting emergence.
4. Selection of planting density. Generally, the per-mu density of hybrid insect-resistant cotton is 1300-1600 plants. For mid-late maturing varieties (such as "Xiangzamian No. 8"), the density should be a little thinner; for early-developing varieties (such as "Nankang No. 3" and "Nankang No. 9"), the density should be a little higher.
5. Selection of plastic film. For directly sown cotton, a plastic film width of 60-70 cm is most suitable. Too narrow is not good for raising temperature and promoting early development; too wide is also not economical.
