Maintenance Methods and Storage Key Points for Cotton Seeders

During the use of agricultural machinery, due to natural and human factors, the performance of parts and components will degrade or be lost. Therefore, the technical maintenance of agricultural machinery is extremely important. Correct maintenance and storage can greatly increase the service life of agricultural machinery, avoid premature wear of parts, and keep the machinery in good technical condition. Through the promotion of 514,000 mu of machine-picked cotton in Shawan County this year, the author has summarized some key points for doing a good job in the maintenance and storage of cotton seeders.

The maintenance of cotton seeders is divided into three types of maintenance: pre-operation maintenance, in-operation maintenance, and post-operation maintenance.

Pre-operation maintenance: Check whether the safety protection devices of each component are intact and installed in place; check whether all fasteners are tightened, and if loose, tighten them immediately; check whether each working component has detached welds, deformation, or damage, and if problems are found, they should be corrected or replaced in a timely manner; check whether each transmission part rotates flexibly, and add lubricating oil if necessary. Parts requiring lubrication: the press roller bearing seat is lubricated once per sowing period; the film-unrolling roller shaft sleeve, film-pressing wheel shaft sleeve, furrow-opening disc and soil-covering disc bearings, soil-covering wheel bearings, hill-drop planter shaft sleeve, and ground wheel bearing seat are greased once every three days.

In-operation maintenance: Check whether all screws and connection points are tightened to eliminate possible accidents; check whether all wearing parts are intact; when the machinery reaches the headland, check whether the duckbill is blocked and whether the seed box, hill-drop planter, and delivery pipe are blocked by debris; remove mud, sand, and debris from the machine during each shift to prevent rust; after each certain working time (about half a day), the hill-drop planter needs to be cleaned once.

Post-operation maintenance: Check whether all screws and connection points are tightened to eliminate possible accidents; check whether all wearing parts are intact; remove mud, sand, and debris from the machine to prevent rust; remove seeds and fertilizer from the seed box; check whether the seed box and delivery pipe are blocked by debris; inspect the bearing parts, add lubricating oil where it is lacking, clean where dust has entered, and replace damaged ones.

The storage of machinery has a great impact on its performance. Machinery exposed outdoors for a long time will undergo severe rusting and parts will become inflexible. To facilitate use in the next operation season, the machinery should be stored correctly: choose a place protected from light and rain for storage; empty the hill-drop planter, seed delivery pipe, and soil-covering wheel; thoroughly clean mud and debris from the machine; lubricate bearings and adjustment bolts at all positions; lubricate the universal drive shaft and chain transmission mechanism; remove the hill-drop planter and clean out the mud and debris inside; apply anti-rust oil and paraffin wax to protect all parts of the machine from rusting, repaint rusty areas for repair, and prevent them from spreading; it is strictly prohibited to store the machinery folded.
