Fengza Cotton No. 1 was bred by Fengle Seed Industry; the female parent is a genic male sterile line. The male parent possesses comprehensive resistance. In January 2003 it passed variety approval in Anhui Province, with the designation Wanmian No. 20. Yield Performance

In 2001 it took part in the Anhui provincial regional trial, where both seed cotton and lint cotton yields ranked first. Among these, the seed cotton yield was 297.6 kg per mu, an increase of 28.3% over the control, and the lint cotton yield was 125.3 kg per mu, an increase of 18.8% over the control, and that year it was exceptionally admitted to the production trial. From 2002 to 2003, the company carried out demonstration plantings in Jiangsu, Anhui, Hubei and other places, where it generally performed well; in high-yield fields the seed cotton yield per mu exceeded 350 kg.

Resistance Performance

Testing by the Cotton Research Institute of CAAS: resistant to Fusarium wilt, tolerant to Verticillium wilt; field performance shows strong insect resistance.

Cultivation Techniques

Sow at the proper time and raise seedlings in nutritional pots; sow in early to mid-April, while for direct seeding mid-to-late April is suitable.

Plant appropriately sparsely; for medium-fertility fields, 1600-2000 plants per mu is suitable.

Fertilize scientifically: apply sufficient base fertilizer, apply heavy flower-and-boll fertilizer, and increase potassium fertilizer.

Pest and disease control: carry out normal control of aphids, red spiders, cotton thrips and other pests.
