Detailed Introduction to the Cotton Variety Xiangzamian No. 8
Variety source: Xiang V22/GK1 selection E-23.
Approval number: Guoshenmian 2005018.
Approval status: Approved by the National Crop Variety Approval Committee in 2005.
Characteristics: Transgenic insect-resistant hybrid first generation, grown as spring cotton in the Yangtze River Basin cotton region with a growth period of 128 days. The plant is tower-shaped and compact, with a plant height of 107.5 cm, thick stems, relatively large dark green leaves, 17.2 fruit branches per plant, 22.0 bolls per plant, oval-round bolls, single boll weight of 6.0 g, seed index of 10.6 g, lint percentage of 41.5%, and pre-frost flower rate of 86.9%. Tolerant to Fusarium wilt, tolerant to Verticillium wilt, resistant to cotton bollworm, and highly resistant to pink bollworm; HVICC fiber upper half mean length of 30.0 mm, specific strength of 30.2 cN/tex, Micronaire value of 5.1, uniformity index of 86.7%, elongation rate of 5.7%, reflectance of 75.6%, yellowness of 8.3, and spinning consistency index of 148.
Yield performance: In the 2000-2001 variety regional trial in the Yangtze River Basin cotton region, the average yields per mu of seed cotton, lint cotton, and pre-frost lint cotton were 247.0 kg, 102.5 kg, and 89.19 kg respectively, which were 120.0%, 111.2%, and 115.2% of the control variety Simian No. 3 respectively. In the 2002 production trial, the average yields per mu of seed cotton, lint cotton, and pre-frost lint cotton were 246.1 kg, 101.4 kg, and 73.96 kg respectively, which were 115.1%, 113.4%, and 119.5% of the control variety respectively.
Cultivation points: (1) Sow and transplant early at the right time, choose disease-free or lightly diseased land for the seedbed, and use half-film mulching to promote early growth; density of 1300-1500 plants per mu. (2) Apply sufficient base fertilizer, quick fertilizer for seedling establishment, steady bud fertilizer (control nitrogen and heavily apply potassium fertilizer and organic fertilizer), sufficient flower and boll fertilizer, early topping fertilizer, skillful strong boll fertilizer, pay attention to combining nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium fertilizers, and especially apply heavy potassium fertilizer. (3) Carry out chemical regulation throughout the whole period, in small amounts and multiple times, following the principle of light early, moderate middle, and heavy late. (4) Prevent water accumulation in the field, promptly remove rotten bolls at the early boll-opening stage, and ensure drainage throughout the whole growth period of the cotton field. (5) Generally no control is needed for the second and third generations of cotton bollworm, but pay attention to control of the fourth generation during major outbreaks; pay attention to control of non-lepidopteran pests such as plant bugs, aphids, red spiders, cotton leafhoppers, and Spodoptera litura.
Suitable regions: Suitable for planting as a spring cotton variety in the Yangtze River Basin cotton regions of Jiangsu, Anhui south of the Huai River, as well as Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Hubei, Hunan, Sichuan, and southern Henan, and should be promoted strictly within the permitted scope of the agricultural genetically modified organism safety certificate.
