Detailed Explanation of the Content of Edible Mushroom Spawn Quality Standards
Grade 1 spawn
Oyster mushroom, Hypsizygus marmoreus (shimeji), enoki mushroom, Pleurotus nebrodensis (white lingzhi mushroom), king oyster mushroom, abalone mushroom, Ferula mushroom
The mycelium is pure white with strong wall-climbing ability; the mycelium is robust and vigorous; the substrate does not shrivel; aerial mycelium does not collapse; and when observed from the reverse side, there are no spots, streaks, or shadows except for the inoculation block point.
Shaggy mane mushroom
The mycelium is grayish-white, sparser than that of oyster mushroom, and slightly earthy-yellow after maturation, with the inoculation block showing heavier pigmentation; the rest is the same as oyster mushroom.
Straw mushroom
The mycelium is grayish-blue, greatly elongated, and semi-transparent, and after maturation most produce chlamydospores.
Lion's mane mushroom
The mycelium is white, slightly darkening; when the substrate is not rich, it grows in segmented form; aerial mycelium is scarce and wall-climbing ability is weak.
Agaricus blazei, button mushroom
The mycelium is white, initially forming fluffy balls, later growing in velvety form; aerial mycelium is abundant, filling the entire test tube.
Poplar mushroom, willow pine mushroom, big fat mushroom, big ball mushroom
The mycelium is white with a slight earthy-yellow dark tinge; when nutrition is poor or moisture is excessive, it grows in branched form; the rest is the same as oyster mushroom.
Grade 2 spawn
Oyster mushroom, Hypsizygus marmoreus (shimeji), enoki mushroom, Pleurotus nebrodensis (white lingzhi mushroom), king oyster mushroom, abalone mushroom, Ferula mushroom
The spawn bottle is pure white, basically uniform from top to bottom; aerial mycelium is vigorous at the bottle mouth; the mycelium at the bottom of the bottle is especially dense and white; an ordinary old canning bottle weighs 550-600 g; there are no spots, streaks, or discoloration.
Shaggy mane mushroom
The spawn bottle is uniform in color; there is aerial mycelium at the bottle mouth, sparser and finer than that of oyster mushroom. Other aspects are the same as oyster mushroom, etc.
Straw mushroom
The mycelium is clearly visible through the spawn bottle; for common varieties, chlamydospores form after the mycelium matures.
Lion's mane mushroom
The mycelium is fine and short-segmented, white in color; after maturation, white dots like bud points appear on the bottle wall.
Agaricus blazei, button mushroom: appearance is pure white and neat, same as the oyster mushroom group.
Poplar mushroom, willow pine mushroom, big fat mushroom, big ball mushroom: mycelium visible on the bottle wall is dark white in color; aerial mycelium at the bottle mouth is relatively scarce; there are no spots, streaks, or dark dots.
Grade 3 spawn
Oyster mushroom, Hypsizygus marmoreus (shimeji), enoki mushroom, Pleurotus nebrodensis (white lingzhi mushroom), king oyster mushroom, abalone mushroom, Ferula mushroom
The spawn bag is uniformly pure white; the mycelium at the inoculation openings on both ends is slightly sparse; it feels firm to the touch and springs back when tapped; for a typical 150 x 0.05 specification bag, 35 cm long, the weight after colonization is about 800-900 g. There are no spots, streaks, or discoloration.
Shaggy mane mushroom
The color is the same as Grade 2 spawn; other aspects are the same as oyster mushroom, etc.
Straw mushroom
The appearance in bottles and bags is the same as Grade 2 spawn, but the amount of chlamydospores produced is small; after the mycelium matures, knots extend out from the inoculation opening and form mushrooms.
Lion's mane mushroom
Same as Grade 2 spawn.
Agaricus blazei, button mushroom
Same as Grade 2 spawn.
Poplar mushroom, willow pine mushroom, big fat mushroom, big ball mushroom: same as Grade 2 spawn.
