How to choose a cotton variety? Follow these principles
Scientific seed selection is the first hurdle in cotton production. The selection of superior varieties should follow these three principles:
First, the approval principle. The state stipulates that only varieties approved by the national or provincial variety approval committee can enter production and application, so approved varieties should be purchased as seed for production.
Second, the ecological zone principle. The selected variety must suit the ecological conditions of the local cotton region.
Third, the maturity principle. Because variety maturity has special requirements for the sowing season and ecological zone, varieties of different maturities cannot be sown out of season. When buying varieties, be sure to check clearly and ask about the variety's growth period indicators. Short-season cotton cannot be sown in spring as spring cotton; medium-maturity and medium-early-maturity spring cotton varieties are required to be sown in spring and cannot be sown in June as summer planting like short-season cotton.
