Detailed introduction to the new cotton variety Chuanmian 65
Chuanmian 65 was bred by the Cash Crop Research Institute of the Sichuan Academy of Agricultural Sciences, (641400 Jianyang). In June 2002 it passed the approval of the Sichuan Provincial Crop Variety Approval Committee and was officially named "Chuanmian 65".
In the 1998-1999 Sichuan provincial regional trials, this variety had a Verticillium wilt index of 18.4-18.5, averaging 18.5, 63.2% lower than the control Simian 2, showing resistance to Verticillium wilt. Its Fusarium wilt index was 4.9-8.6, averaging 6.8, 86.4% lower than the control Simian 2, showing high resistance to Fusarium wilt. In continuous evaluations by Huazhong Agricultural University from 1999 to 2001, the spider mite damage rating was 1.29-1.39, averaging 1.33, 42.2% lower than the control Emian 18, showing resistance to cotton spider mites. The seed damage rate from pink bollworm was 6.3-9.0%, averaging 8.1%, 50.6% lower than the control Emian 18, showing resistance to pink bollworm.
Samples submitted from the 1998-1999 Sichuan provincial regional trials and tested by the Cotton Quality Supervision and Testing Center of the Ministry of Agriculture showed that all fiber indices were significantly better than those of the control Chuanmian 56, meeting the national quality cotton fiber standards.
