New Cotton Variety - "Tianning No. 2": High-Yield and Resistant to Pests and Diseases
I. Characteristics and Traits
The growth period is 130 days. The plant is tower-shaped, with a plant height of 100 cm, 6-8 fruiting branch nodes, and light green leaves. The bolls are oval-shaped, with strong and concentrated boll setting, good drought and waterlogging resistance, and few shedding. The boll weight is 5.5 g-6 g, with an average of 30-35 bolls per plant, up to a maximum of 90. Boll opening is smooth and the cotton is pure white, easy to pick. The lint percentage is 38-40%, the seed index is 10 g, and pre-frost cotton accounts for 90%. It is highly resistant to fusarium wilt, with a disease index of 2.3, and highly tolerant to verticillium wilt, with a disease index of 22.9. It is early-maturing without premature senescence. It is adapted to cultivation in the Yellow-Huai River Basin and the Yangtze River Basin.
II. Excellent Quality
Fiber length 30.9 mm. Strength 30.7 cm/tex, uniformity 83.7%, elongation 6.8%, micronaire value 4.4, reflectance 77.9%, yellowness 7.8, ring-spun skein strength 146, air-spun index 1324.4. All indicators meet the national high-quality cotton standards.
III. Yield
In the 2001-2002 two-year cotton regional trial in Henan Province, the yield ranked first both years. Within several years, it was demonstrated and planted in Jiangxi, Anhui, Jiangsu, Henan, and Hebei. It sets 30 bolls per plant, up to 90 in the field, and 150 without pruning. The general yield is 600-700 jin of seed cotton per mu, with a maximum yield of up to 1,000 jin per mu.
IV. Key Cultivation Points
(1) Sowing time and rate: Sow in nutrient pots in early April, using 0.5 kg per mu, with 3 seeds per hole; for direct sowing, sow on April 20, using 0.75 kg of coated seed per mu, with 5 seeds per hole.
(2) Promote growth in May, maintain steady growth in June, top the plants on July 10, and after August 10 spray foliar fertilizer once every 10 days (urea, boron fertilizer, monopotassium phosphate).
(3) Planting density: A: With pruning, 2,500 plants per mu. B: Without pruning, 1,000-1,333 plants per mu. (1,000 plants: row spacing 3 chi, plant spacing 2 chi, 1 plant per hole. 1,333 plants: row spacing 3 chi, plant spacing 3 chi, 2 plants per hole).
