Detailed Introduction to the New Cotton Variety Baimian No. 2
Characteristics and Traits Baimian No. 2 is a new early-maturing cotton variety that combines high yield, high quality, and resistance to pests and diseases, and is suitable for summer sowing. The growth period is 107-112 d. This variety has a cylindrical plant shape, with plant compactness moderate, stems slightly purple and hairy, leaves medium-sized, and leaf color light green. It has strong boll-setting ability, with 9.2 bolls per plant, round bolls, single boll weight 5.12 g, thin boll shell, and concentrated boll opening, with an average lint percentage of 40.8%. It has good early maturity, high yield, and high yield stability. The pre-frost boll rate is 88.41%, the average plant height is 76.72 cm, the node position of the first fruiting branch is 5.47 nodes, the average number of fruiting branches is 9.95, the seed index is 10.16 g, and the sterile seed rate is 7.49%. Fiber quality: the average 2.5% span length is 27.73 mm, the average specific strength is 29.27 cN/tex, the average Micronaire value is 4.39, and the spinning consistency index is 131.86. Tested by the Cotton Quality Supervision, Inspection and Testing Center of the Ministry of Agriculture, the cotton fiber quality reached the national "10th Five-Year Plan" breeding research targets. According to pest and disease resistance testing by the Cotton Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences: the fusarium wilt disease index is 2.57, the verticillium wilt disease index is 37.42, and it is resistant to cotton bollworm. This variety shows the characteristics of early maturity, good late growth potential, high quality, high yield, strong resistance to stress, good resistance to pests and diseases, high resistance to fusarium wilt, and tolerance to verticillium wilt. It is an excellent new variety with development value.
Yield Performance High yield. Based on the average results of two years and 22 location regional and production trials, Baimian No. 2 increased lint cotton and pre-frost lint cotton by 25.96% and 31.84%, respectively, compared with the control Zhongmian 30, reaching an extremely significant level of increase. In 2002, it participated in the Henan Province short-season cotton variety regional trial. The per-mu yields of seed cotton, pre-frost seed cotton, lint cotton, and pre-frost lint cotton were 220.20 kg, 194.89 kg, 91.44 kg, and 81.46 kg, respectively, increasing by 24.15%, 28.9%, 31.38%, and 36.86% compared with the control variety Zhongmian 30. In 2003, in the continued trial, the per-mu yields of seed cotton, lint cotton, and pre-frost lint cotton were 132.40 kg, 51.31 kg, and 38.53 kg, respectively, increasing by 20.65%, 27.99%, and 36.64% compared with the control variety Zhongmian 30. The two-year average per-mu yields of seed cotton, lint cotton, and pre-frost lint cotton were 176.30 kg, 71.38 kg, and 60 kg, respectively, increasing by 22.4%, 29.69%, and 36.75% compared with the control variety Zhongmian 30. In 2003, it participated in the production trial. The per-mu yields of seed cotton, lint cotton, and pre-frost lint cotton were 127.6 kg, 50.0 kg, and 43.9 kg, respectively, increasing by 10.9%, 16.6%, and 18.8% compared with the control variety Zhongmian 30.
Key Cultivation Techniques (1) Sowing time and density: For the two-one or three-one pattern of dibbling in wheat furrows, combined with irrigation of wheat-yellowing water to build soil moisture, dibble around May 20 between wheat furrows. Seedlings can also be raised before wheat harvest and transplanted after wheat harvest. Per-mu density: 5500-6000 plants for medium-fertility cotton fields, and it can be appropriately increased or decreased as soil fertility changes. (2) Fertilization: On the basis of applying sufficient base fertilizer to the previous crop @#@245@#@, supplement with urea 5 kg/mu at the seedling stage, apply a heavy flower and boll fertilizer with urea 15 kg/mu, and spray potassium dihydrogen phosphate on the leaves twice later to prevent premature senescence. (3) Proper chemical regulation to maintain steady growth.
