Introduction to the new cotton variety Jiza 3268
Variety characteristics: Growth period 125--130 days, plant height 85cm, rapid emergence, steady growth throughout the growth period. Plant shape tower-type and relatively loose, leaves medium in size, bolls relatively large and round, strong boll-setting ability, bolls evenly distributed on the upper, middle and lower parts. Strong resistance, wide adaptability, high lint percentage, easy and full boll opening, excellent quality, high pre-frost boll rate. Single boll weight 6.65g, lint percentage 41.56%, resistant to Fusarium wilt and tolerant to Verticillium wilt, Fusarium wilt index 3.0, Verticillium wilt index 23.8, resistant to cotton bollworm. 2.5% span length 31.6mm, specific strength 23.1CN/tex, Micronaire value 4.2.
Yield performance: According to the 2002 Hebei Province new cotton variety regional trial results, seed cotton yield was 4,275.9kg/hm2, an increase of 21.22% over the control Xinmian 33B; lint cotton yield was 1,667.1kg/hm2, an increase of 27.66% over the control Xinmian 33B; pre-frost seed cotton yield was 3,825.9kg/hm2, an increase of 21.38% over the control Xinmian 33B; pre-frost lint cotton yield was 1,546.5kg/hm2, an increase of 32.62% over the control Xinmian 33B.
Cultivation points: Sow at the appropriate time, sun the seeds before sowing, density 22,500--37,500 plants/hm2, pay attention to timely control of cotton aphids, red spiders, mirid bugs, beet armyworm and other cotton field pests. Apply sufficient base fertilizer, timely topdressing and watering before the early flowering stage, apply urea 225kg/hm2, water adequately after the full flowering stage, and appropriately apply topping fertilizer. For vigorously growing cotton fields, carry out timely chemical regulation and follow the principle of small amounts applied multiple times, with the dosage at the bud stage 22.5--30.0g/hm2 and at the flowering and boll stage 37.5--45.0g/hm2.
Suitable regions: Widely planted in cotton regions of the Yellow River basin such as Hebei, Henan, Shandong, Tianjin, Jiangsu, Anhui, Shanxi and Shaanxi, in cotton regions of the northern Yangtze River basin such as Hubei and Jiangxi, and in production cotton regions such as **southern Xinjiang.
