Five key points to remember when spraying foliar fertilizer on cotton

Cotton leaves are the most important nutritional organs of the cotton plant, possessing four functions: photosynthesis, respiration, transpiration and absorption. By making use of their absorption and photosynthesis, targeted foliar spraying of fertilizer can promote steady plant growth, strengthen resistance to disease, pests, drought and premature aging, regulate vegetative and reproductive growth, and greatly increase yield and quality. 1. Spray type: scientifically choose the foliar fertilizer according to the cotton's growth vigor; for excessively vigorous cotton seedlings, spray a 0.3%-0.4% potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution or a 2% borax solution

1. Spray type: scientifically choose the foliar fertilizer according to the cotton's growth vigor; for excessively vigorous cotton seedlings, spray a 0.3%-0.4% potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution or a 2% borax solution. From July to late August, to prevent and control red leaf stem blight and premature aging, spray a mixed solution of potassium chloride, urea and borax 2 times; the specific ratio: per mu use 0.5 kg potassium chloride + 0.3 kg urea + 0.01 kg borax + 30 kg water, sprayed over 1 mu of land. These foliar fertilizers are low in cost, effective, and significantly increase yield.

2. Spraying position: the underside of cotton leaves has far greater adhesion to and absorption capacity for the fertilizer solution than the upper side, so during operation point the sprayer head upward and spray the fertilizer solution onto the undersides of the leaves in the middle and upper parts of the cotton plant.

3. Spraying time: generally spray after 4 p.m. on sunny days; on cloudy days it can be sprayed all day; if rain falls within 4 hours after spraying, spray again; the interval between two sprayings is 7-10 days.

4. Spraying amount: the appropriate degree is when the fertilizer solution is about to drip but does not drip from the underside of the cotton leaves; the amount of fertilizer solution used per mu is 30 kg-50 kg.

5. Reasonable mixed spraying: to save labor, combine foliar fertilizer spraying with pest-control pesticide spraying; be careful not to mix acidic fertilizer with alkaline pesticide, or alkaline fertilizer with acidic pesticide, and flexibly manage the spraying according to the needs of pest and disease control.
