What to Do About Excessive Cotton Growth Regulator Application? Master These Mitigation Methods
Every year in late July and early August, many cotton farmers in cotton-growing areas report that some cotton plants showed excessive vigor in the earlier stage, and some even tended toward runaway growth, so they applied the plant growth regulator mepiquat chloride. Because they could not get the concentration right, when the spray concentration was too high and they encountered high-temperature weather, the cotton plants showed symptoms of leaves and branches being unable to spread out, and cotton growth was inhibited. Below are several methods to alleviate excessive cotton growth:
Spray Huimanfeng active liquid fertilizer. This fertilizer contains chelated humates and multi-element compound fertilizer, and has high activity, high energy, and obvious effects in promoting crop growth and development and detoxifying. Use a 1000-fold dilution of Huimanfeng active liquid fertilizer per mu to spray on the leaf surface, spraying once every 7 days, for 2 consecutive sprays.
Plant growth promoter 820. 820 can rapidly penetrate into the plant and promote cell division and proliferation. After phytotoxicity occurs, spray a 4000-fold dilution of 820 solution, spraying once every 6 days, for 2~3 consecutive sprays.
Apply gibberellin. It can promote enzyme synthesis, promote cell elongation, and accelerate plant growth and development. The application concentration is 10~20 mg/L.
Strengthen fertilizer and water management. Under high temperature and drought conditions, drought relief should be carried out in a timely manner to regulate fertilizer with water, so that the fertilizer already applied can fully take effect.
Spray nitrogen fertilizer on the leaf surface. When spraying nitrogen fertilizer, it should be done when the cotton field has sufficient soil moisture and when the stomata of the cotton leaves are open in the morning and evening, and it should be sprayed on the back of the leaves.
