Demian 998 is a recommended variety for the cotton improved seed subsidy program.
National Approved Cotton 2010005
Characteristics: a transgenic insect-resistant gene mid-early maturing hybrid variety, with a growth period of 120 days under late spring sowing in the Yellow River Basin cotton region. Strong emergence, large cotyledons, robust seedlings, strong growth throughout the growth period, good uniformity, concentrated boll setting, and smooth boll opening. Plant height 106.2 cm, plant type relatively loose, stems thick and sturdy with many hairs, leaves medium-sized and dark green, bolls oval and relatively large, first fruiting branch node at 6.9 nodes, bolls per plant 17.3, single boll weight 6.4 g. Lint percentage 41.6%, seed index 11.5 g, pre-frost flower rate 90.6%. Highly resistant to Fusarium wilt, tolerant to Verticillium wilt, resistant to cotton bollworm. HVICC fiber upper half mean length 30.0 mm, breaking tenacity 28.2 cN/tex, micronaire value 5.2, breaking elongation 6.3%, reflectance 75.5%, yellowness 7.6, uniformity index 84.9%, spinning consistency index 137.
Key cultivation techniques: 1. In the Yellow River Basin cotton region, sow generally in early May, preferably with plastic film mulching. 2. Planting density per mu: 3000-4000 plants on medium-fertility plots. 3. Apply sufficient base fertilizer, apply flower and boll fertilizer early and heavily, and water promptly in case of drought during the flowering and boll stage. 4. Based on cotton growth and weather conditions, carry out rational chemical regulation, applying light regulation early and heavier regulation later. For simplified pruning plots, appropriately increase chemical regulation. 5. No control is needed for first- and second-generation cotton bollworm; for third- and fourth-generation cotton bollworm, timely control should be carried out when larvae exceed 5 per 100 plants on more than 2 bolls, and throughout the growth period attention should be paid to controlling other pests such as mirids, whiteflies, red spider mites, and beet armyworm. 6. Severely Verticillium wilt-infested land is not suitable for planting.
Approval opinion: a transgenic insect-resistant gene mid-maturing hybrid variety, which has obtained the agricultural genetically modified organism production and application safety certificate, with the genetically modified organism name sGKz55 (Demian 998), meets the national cotton variety approval standards, and has passed approval. It is suitable for planting as wheat intercropped cotton in southern Hebei, northwestern and southwestern Shandong, eastern and northern Henan, and north of the Huai River in Anhui and Jiangsu, and must not exceed the scope permitted by the agricultural genetically modified organism safety certificate.
