How to prevent cotton diseases? Mastering these techniques is key
In recent years, the harm caused by diseases has become one of the important factors restricting cotton yield and quality. For some diseases, the symptoms are not obvious at the beginning and are easily overlooked, and by the time they become severe, it is too late to take measures. Especially in continuous cropping plots, cotton farmers find some commonly occurring diseases and soil-borne diseases very troublesome, and often feel helpless. For this reason, when it comes to cotton diseases, the approach should be "prevention first, treatment second." There are quite a few cotton diseases, but the two that give cotton farmers the biggest headache are mainly these: first, the problem of dead seedlings caused by damping-off disease after emergence, and second, verticillium wilt and fusarium wilt. These two diseases have also been long-standing misunderstandings in cotton farmers' prevention and control. First, they do not know what kind of pesticide to choose; there are too many types of pesticides on the market, all sorts of varieties, and not many pesticides truly work, causing cotton farmer friends to choose the wrong pesticide. Second, they do not understand the timing of prevention, and wait until the disease has fully developed before applying pesticide, by which time great losses have already been caused. So many cotton farmer friends have a wrong idea -- that cotton diseases cannot be treated.
The prevention and control of cotton diseases is as follows:
1. Seedling-stage disease -- damping-off disease (dead seedlings). After cotton seedlings emerge, yellow-brown lesions appear at the base of the stem (where it meets the ground), gradually expand, become sunken and rotten, and turn dark brown, and the cotton seedlings wither and die. Farmers commonly call it "black neck" disease. Within 15 days after cotton seedlings emerge, their resistance is weakest. When encountering low temperatures and high humidity, seedling disease occurs severely, and the more continuous cropping, the worse it becomes. Therefore, grasp two points when preventing and controlling it: (1) Seed coating before sowing. For every 2 to 3 jin of seeds, use 10 ml of Gaqiao plus 50 g of Jiayuan Yiwei for seed dressing and coating. This not only prevents and controls damping-off disease and verticillium wilt and fusarium wilt, but can also play a role in increasing yield. (2) After cotton seedlings emerge, spray pesticide in time for prevention. The pesticide with the best control effect is: 2000-fold Ruimiaoqing solution plus 15000-fold Bihu solution. Spraying it onto the root and stem area of the cotton seedlings can effectively prevent and control the dead seedling phenomenon.
2. Verticillium wilt and fusarium wilt. Both cotton fusarium wilt and verticillium wilt can harm the vascular bundle tissue of cotton, causing blockage of the vascular bundles, leading to yellowing, drying, and shedding of cotton leaves, the cotton plant becoming bare-stemmed, and the plant wilting, even to the point of withering and dying.
Prevention and control methods:
1. Early-stage prevention: In the early stage of cotton growth (May 25, June 23), carry out two necessary pesticide preventions, choosing Ruimiaoqing (2000-fold solution) plus Jiayuan Yiwei (750-fold solution) for spraying, with a control effect of over 90%.
2. After disease onset, use Ruimiaoqing (2000-fold solution) plus Jiayuan Yiwei (750-fold solution), or Haolike (5000-fold solution) plus Kusuo Huangwei Dajiuxing (750-fold solution) to spray and drench the roots, which can effectively control the development of the disease.
