Jimian 25 is a new high-quality, disease-resistant, medium-early maturing upland cotton variety bred by the Cotton Research Institute of the Hebei Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences through chromosome doubling technology for interspecific hybridization, backcrossing, and multiple crossing of Gossypium hirsutum, Gossypium arboreum, and wild cotton. Its parentage is [Jimian No. 8 x (4086 x Shise)] x (Ji 182 x Zhonglu 85-2-1). =Cotton Research Institute of the Hebei Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences Characteristics and Traits This variety has a growth period of about 125 days. Characteristics and Traits This variety has a growth period of about 125 days. Plant height is 88 cm, plant type is moderate, emergence is fast and uniform, growth vigor is relatively strong in the mid-to-late stages, leaves are medium in size, leaf surface is wrinkled, leaf color is relatively dark, and leaf function is good. Bolls are relatively large, ovate, with blunt tips, thin boll walls, boll weight 5.2-5.93 g, and strong boll-setting ability. Lint percentage is 41%, seed index is about 10 g, pre-frost boll opening rate is 89.5%, early maturing without premature senescence, boll opening is full and smooth, and easy to pick.

Jimian 25 participated in the Hebei provincial regional trial from 1994 to 1995. It increased yield at all 12 site-times over two years. The average lint yield and pre-frost lint yield per mu were 60.9 kg and 54.5 kg, respectively, increasing by 18.5% and 23.3% compared with the control Zhong 12, reaching an extremely significant level, and ranking first among the 10 tested varieties. From 1995 to 1996, it participated in the national Yellow River Basin cotton variety regional trial. The average lint yield per mu was 68.3 kg, an increase of 7.9% compared with the control Zhong 12, reaching a significant level. In 1997, it participated in the national Yellow River Basin cotton variety production trial. The lint yield and pre-frost lint yield per mu were 85.8 kg and 79.0 kg, respectively, increasing by 27.5% and 30.76% compared with the control Zhong 12, ranking first among conventional varieties. In 1997, it participated in the **Corps Seed General Station regional trial. The average lint yield and pre-frost lint yield per mu were 117.0 kg and 112.2 kg, respectively, increasing by 8.4% and 10.1% compared with the control Zhong 12, and was the variety with the most outstanding comprehensive evaluation.

According to testing, this variety has a 2.5% span length of 29.1 mm, specific strength of 19.8 g/tex, micronaire value of 4.5, ring-spun yarn strength of 114 lb, rotor-spun yarn index of 1766 points, and comprehensive indicators meeting textile requirements. It was identified by the Hebei Plant Protection Institute as a variety resistant to Fusarium wilt and tolerant to Verticillium wilt, with a Fusarium wilt disease index of 9.41 and a Verticillium wilt disease index of 68.82. From 1995 to 1996, it was identified by the Plant Protection Laboratory of the Cotton Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences as a variety resistant to Verticillium wilt, with an average disease index of 16.7. Jimian 25 generally shows resistance to Verticillium wilt in production. In many years and multiple locations of trials in the Heilonggang region, this variety has shown a certain degree of drought resistance and saline-alkali tolerance.

Regions and Technology Jimian 25 is suitable for promotion and planting in Hebei, Henan, Shandong, ** and other provinces and cities. At present, the cumulative promotion area has reached 1.2 million shang, creating economic benefits of 336 million yuan. It is expected that the cumulative promotion area can reach more than 8 million mu within the next two years.

Cultivation Regulations:

1. Ensure full stands. Sun the seed and soak the seed before sowing. On the basis of applying sufficient base fertilizer, water sufficiently before sowing and sow at the appropriate time.

2. Reasonable close planting. For generally irrigated and fertilized land, the density is about 3,300 plants per mu; for dry and poor land, the density is about 4,500 plants per mu.

3. Coordinate fertilizer and water. This variety develops quickly and squares and sets bolls early. On the basis of applying sufficient base fertilizer, the first irrigation time can be appropriately advanced. During the growth period, apply 10-15 kg of urea per mu in combination with irrigation.

4. Chemical regulation throughout the whole process, with reasonable dosage. Apply chemical regulation once at the bud stage, using 1.0 g of mepiquat chloride per mu; apply chemical regulation 2-3 times at the flowering and boll stage, generally at 1.5-2.0 g per mu. In flood years or cotton fields with vigorous growth, appropriately increase the dosage; in dry years or cotton fields with weak growth, appropriately reduce the dosage.

5. Timely control of insect pests. The main pests are cotton aphids and cotton bollworms. All localities should control them promptly according to the control thresholds.
