The period from when 50% of cotton plants flower to when 50% of cotton plants mature and open their bolls is called the flowering and boll stage. Cotton in Tianjin generally enters the flowering and boll stage in early July and finishes at the end of August. This period is the key period that determines cotton yield, and cotton farmers are urged to pay attention to the growth trend of cotton in the field and adjust technical management measures at any time. According to Gao Qingming and others of the Cotton Research Institute of the Hebei Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences, based on morphological indicators such as cotton plant growth during the flowering and boll stage, cotton fields are classified into 4 grades: excessive vegetative growth, robust, ordinary, and weak. The main indicators of the 4 grades are as follows: ①

The main indicators of the 4 grades are as follows: ① In cotton fields with excessive vegetative growth, the plant height at the early flowering stage is above 70 cm, above 100 cm at the full flowering stage, the daily increase in plant height is above 3 cm, and the red stem ratio is 60% at the early flowering stage and 75-80% at the full flowering stage; ② in robust cotton fields, the plant height at the early flowering stage is above 50-60 cm, 85-90 cm at the full flowering stage, the daily increase in plant height is above 2.0-2.5 cm, and the red stem ratio is 70% at the early flowering stage and about 90% at the full flowering stage; ③ in ordinary cotton fields, the plant height at the early flowering stage is 40-50 cm, 70-75 cm at the full flowering stage, the daily increase in plant height is below 2 cm, and the red stem ratio is 80% at the early flowering stage and reaches 95% at the full flowering stage; ④ in weak cotton fields, the plant height at the early flowering stage is about 35 cm, no more than 60 cm at the full flowering stage, the daily increase in plant height is 1.5 cm, and the red stem ratio is 90% at the early flowering stage and 95% at the full flowering stage.
