Based on variety promotion in the project areas, provincial variety demonstrations and expert review, the Anhui Provincial Agricultural Bureau researched and selected 29 leading varieties for the 2008 cotton improved seed subsidy project. The specific varieties are as follows: 26 hybrid cottons, namely E-zamian No. 11, CCRI 53 (Zhongza 003), Wanmian 25 (Lingza No. 1 F1), Chuzamian 180 (D180F1), Nannong No. 6 (Nankang No. 6, GKz23), Jiza 6268, Wanmian 23 (Dangza No. 1 F1)

The specific varieties are as follows:

26 hybrid cottons, namely E-zamian No. 11, CCRI 53 (Zhongza 003), Wanmian 25 (Lingza No. 1 F1), Chuzamian 180 (D180F1), Nannong No. 6 (Nankang No. 6, GKz23), Jiza 6268, Wanmian 23 (Dangza No. 1 F1), Wanmian 26 (Dongza No. 10, Shengjinmian No. 10), Siza No. 3, Wanmian 27 (Wanza No. 5), Wanmian 28 (Wanza No. 8), Wanmian 13 (Wanza 40), Nannong No. 9 (Nannong 01-9, limited to the cotton areas along the Yangtze River), Wanmian 31 (Quanza No. 1), Nannongyou No. 3 (Nanyou No. 3 F1), Wanmian 32 (Jiouza No. 6), Fengyu No. 8, Wanmian 30 (Yinfeng-88), Wanmian 24 (Wanza No. 3 F1), E-zamian No. 10 (Tai 97d5-1, GKz33), Wanmian 22 (Fengzamian 169), Kemian No. 3, Wanmian 18 (Huaiza No. 2), Xiangzamian No. 8 (GKz17), Kemian No. 6 (Kezamian 133), CCRI 48 (Zhong 0088F1); 3 conventional cottons, namely Wanmian 37 (Lvyimian No. 7, Longanmian No. 2), Wanmian 34 (HH No. 6), Lingxuan No. 2.

The provincial agricultural bureau requires the project counties (districts, bureaus) to formally select subsidised varieties from the published leading varieties on the basis of variety promotion. In principle, each project county (district, bureau) shall select no more than 5 subsidised varieties. After the varieties are determined, the project areas shall promptly break down and assign the variety areas to townships and villages, and carry out publicity and promotion, market supervision and coordination of production and marketing in the project areas.
