E Mian 21 is a mid-maturing, high-quality new cotton variety bred by the Hubei Academy of Agricultural Sciences from the hybrid progeny of (5512/PD4548)F1//Zhongmiansuo 12. Characteristics: This variety has a growth period of 128 days. It has a well-developed root system, a tower-shaped plant, a plant height of about 120 cm, thick and upright stems, relatively deeply lobed leaves, a relatively large corolla, creamy white anthers, relatively large oval bolls, and thin boll husks. From 1994 to 1995, it participated in the Hubei Provincial Cotton Variety Regional Trial, with an average lint yield of 85.32 thousand

From 1994 to 1995, it participated in the Hubei Provincial Cotton Variety Regional Trial, with an average lint yield of 85.32 kg/mu, an increase of 3.27% over the control variety E Jing 1, reaching a significant level; in production demonstrations, it increased lint yield by 8.46%-15.96% over the control variety E Jing 1, with the highest lint yield reaching 125.2 kg/mu. E Mian 21 has good quality, a staple length of 31 mm, good fiber color, bright white flowers, and is easy to pick. According to testing by the Fiber Inspection Center of the Ministry of Agriculture: 2.5% span length 31.1 mm, specific strength 23.6 g/tex, Micronaire value 4.8, uniformity 52.0. From 1993 to 1995, according to artificial disease nursery identification by the Hubei Provincial Institute of Plant Protection, this variety had a Fusarium wilt index of 9.57 and a Verticillium wilt index of 23.08, making it a variety resistant to Fusarium wilt and tolerant to Verticillium wilt. In 1995, according to identification in the artificial high-pressure disease nursery of the Institute of Plant Protection, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, its Verticillium wilt resistance exceeded that of Zhongmiansuo 12.

Breeder: Hubei Academy of Agricultural Sciences

Region and Technology: E Mian 21 is suitable for planting in the middle Yangtze River cotton regions such as Hubei and Jiangxi. At present, the promoted area has reached 2 million mu, increasing lint cotton by 15.6 million kg, creating economic benefits of 1.5 billion yuan. The annual promoted area is expected to reach 5 million mu.

Cultivation Regulations:

1. Timely sowing. In order to fully give play to the yield-increasing potential of this variety, nutrient bowl seedling raising and transplanting can be adopted, sowing from late March to early April and transplanting from late April to early May.

2. Moderate density. This variety has a relatively loose plant type. In cotton-growing areas with high production levels, double-film cultivation can be implemented, with 2,800-3,000 plants per mu.

3. Scientific fertilization. According to the growth characteristics of this variety, control quick-acting nitrogen fertilizer at the bud stage, and heavily apply flowering and boll fertilizer when 1-2 hard bolls are set. Every 100 kg of lint cotton requires about 22 kg of pure nitrogen, 6 kg of phosphorus pentoxide, and 12 kg of potassium oxide. In cotton fields with relatively sandy soil, great attention must be paid to applying potassium fertilizer.

4. Correct chemical regulation. When the cotton plant has 8-9 main stem leaves, 14-16 leaves, and before and after topping, spray with mepiquat chloride (or chlormequat) at 1.0 g (or 4 mL), 2.0 g (or 8 mL), and 2.5-3.0 g (or 10-12 mL) mixed with water in sequence to regulate plant type, coordinate growth, and achieve a abundant harvest and bumper income.
