Technical measures for snow and freeze protection of mulberry trees, tea trees and fruit trees
I. Fruit: (1) Citrus: Before freezing, spray an anti-transpirant insulation agent on the tree canopy, and light smoke in the orchard to improve the freeze protection effect. For citrus affected by freezing injury, promptly remove curled, frost-killed leaves and withered shoot tips, bandage branches damaged by snow pressure, prune and shape branches broken by pressure, treat wounds with a wound protectant, promptly spray foliar fertilizer, and strengthen fertilizer and water management. For lightly frozen trees, apply 0.5% urea as a foliar topdressing 2-3 times; for severely frozen trees, it is advisable to apply light fertilizer multiple times in split applications. (2) Loquat: Insulate the tree disk by hilling soil or covering it with rice straw; promptly apply a foliar fertilizer of 0.2% urea + 0.2% monopotassium sulfate solution or 0.1% borax solution to improve cold resistance; adopt a bundling treatment by wrapping the leaves below the flower clusters upward around the flower clusters, or tying large branches together to reduce cold damage to loquat flower clusters and young fruit; flower clusters can also be bagged to reduce freezing injury.
II. Tea. Cover the tea garden with grass by spreading weeds, rice straw, pruned branches, etc., or cover the canopy surface with shade netting, and at the same time cover the shade netting with plastic film or rice straw and weeds to improve the freeze protection effect. For tea gardens with relatively light freezing injury and an originally good plucking surface, use light pruning and clean the canopy surface to facilitate tea bud germination; the pruning degree should be lighter rather than deeper, and the plucking surface should be maintained as much as possible; for those more severely damaged, carry out deep pruning or heavy pruning or even collar pruning. At the same time, promptly spray foliar fertilizer to help restore the tea tree's vigor and tea bud germination and promote new shoot growth; cultivate the tree canopy. For lightly pruned tea trees, spring tea picking should leave 1 large leaf, while summer and autumn tea should be picked conventionally, so as to maintain a good canopy and also pick more high-grade famous and fine tea.
