Characteristics and Quality Introduction of Kaishan Baimao Tea
Kaishan Baimao Tea is produced in Kaishan Town, Babu District, Hezhou City, Guangxi, with the Southeast Tea Farm (Gongdanchong) being the best. Here the mountains are high and the forests dense; it is the watershed between the water systems of the Yangtze River tributaries and the Pearl River basin, belongs to the Mengzhu Ridge mountain range, and has an altitude of 1280m. Kaishan Baimao Tea is a famous local tea of Guangxi and the only typical apple-scented tea in the country, with the characteristics of a high, lasting and mellow aroma, a strong sweet aftertaste, a sweet and refreshing throat feel, and resistance to repeated brewing. The tea leaves are emerald green or dark green, and the liquor is clear and bright. In 1972 it won first place at the Hangzhou Famous Tea Competition, and in April 2004 it won the special prize at the Guangxi famous tea "Guibei Cup" competition. Historical records once recounted: when Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty toured south of the Yangtze to Guilin, an old man invited Qianlong to taste tea. The emperor raised the teacup and sniffed it. He could not help exclaiming "Good tea," and kept pressing, "May I ask where this tea comes from?" The old man replied, "The tea comes from Kaishan in He County; it is Kaishan tea. This tea is good for the first infusion, fine for the second, and by the third and fourth infusions its flavor is still not exhausted." Then the emperor poured a second infusion, took a light sip, and involuntarily clapped his hands and cried, "Excellent! Truly a first-class Kaishan tea; there is no finer tea under heaven." From then on, the fame of He County Kaishan Baimao Tea spread far and wide to this day.
