How to Choose the Mushroom Fruiting Site and Fruiting Method
Fruiting site and fruiting method for bag-cultivated oyster mushrooms: fruiting can be carried out indoors or outdoors. Indoor fruiting: generally, an idle room can be used for fruiting; choose a room with good air permeability, good heat preservation and moisture retention, and relatively sufficient light, preferably a room facing south. Outdoor fruiting: generally, above-ground or semi-underground plastic sheds are used for fruiting, with semi-underground plastic sheds being especially good, because semi-underground plastic sheds have good heat preservation and moisture retention, which is favorable for the formation and growth of fruiting bodies. Semi-underground plastic sheds are generally 1 m deep, 3.5-4 m wide, and 8-12 m long. The shed is built with bamboo poles or wooden sticks, and the shed height only needs to allow a person to walk upright for management. After the shed frame is built, first cover it with straw mats and then with plastic sheeting. During the fruiting period, water can be sprayed onto the straw mats to maintain humidity. Inside the shed, use bamboo poles 1.5-2 cm in diameter to build racks, and the rack height should be suitable for placing 10-12 layers of mushroom bags. The whole rack can be divided into 3-4 sections, each section can hold 3-4 layers of mushroom bags, and the distance between two rows of racks is 0.7-1 m. To strengthen ventilation and air exchange, ventilation tubes can be installed in the shed. Between the two rows of racks on both sides of the shed, shallow trenches 15-20 cm wide and 10 cm deep can be dug as air passages to discharge carbon dioxide from the shed.
Fruiting methods. Fruiting from both ends: untie the bag opening, turn the excess plastic film at both ends outward or cut it off, and expose the mushroom blocks at both ends completely to the humid air so they fruit. To maintain humidity inside the mushroom bags, the method of fruiting from both ends is generally mostly used. Positioned fruiting: with the method of fruiting from both ends, oyster mushrooms generally have better market quality. When the cultivation scale is large, positioned fruiting is mostly chosen: do not untie the bag opening, and use a thick needle to puncture holes in the mushroom bag for fruiting.
