Growing Techniques 0 views
Hunan Province has 1.2 million mu of tea gardens, mainly planted with varieties such as Baihaozao, Zhuyeqi and Bixiangzao, and the plants usually freeze to death only when temperatures exceed -10°C. However, due to this large-scale rain and snow and low-temperature freezing, overwintering of tea gardens has been affected to varying degrees, and tea gardens in mountainous areas in particular have suffered relatively severe freezing disasters. Overall, the branches and leaves of the tea plants have frozen, and the plants have been affected, which will affect the picking period of famous premium tea in early spring and reduce the yield and quality of spring tea. Relevant tea farmers should take corresponding measures according to local frost damage conditions.

For tea gardens where frost damage symptoms have appeared on the branches and leaves of the tea plant canopy, light pruning should be carried out as early as possible in late February. The degree of light pruning is 5 cm below the cut, or the frost-damaged layer should be cut off, but the pruning should not be too heavy. If pruning is too heavy, it will further delay the sprouting of spring shoots. Only early sprouting can allow early picking of famous premium tea.

For tea gardens with no frost damage symptoms on the canopy surface, light pruning may be omitted before spring tea, and the light pruning period may be moved to mid-May after spring tea. This can advance the sprouting of spring shoots, allowing early sprouting and early picking of famous premium tea.

Appropriately increase topdressing, strengthen soil nutrition, restore plant vigor and increase yield. Topdressing before spring tea can be applied to the tea garden from late February to early March. The topdressing amount is 24-30 kg of pure nitrogen per mu for a tea garden with a yield of 15 kg of dry tea.

Apply foliar fertilizer to improve cold resistance and promote the vegetative growth of the tea plants.
