Southern blight in tree peonies mainly occurs at the stem base near the ground. Years of research show that the planting soil and fertilizer are the main sources of infection for this disease. It is more likely to occur before and after the tree peony blooms and during hot, rainy seasons. When the disease strikes, the above-ground parts show no obvious symptoms; later, as temperature and humidity rise, the mycelium spreads from the rhizome out onto the soil surface, densely covering the area around the rhizome in a cloud-like mass, and finally forming brown, millet-grain-sized sclerotia. The top shoots of the diseased plant wither, the leaves wilt and droop, and eventually the whole plant dies.

Prevention and control methods:
1. Be careful to rotate with gramineous crops often, and never rotate with root and rhizome medicinal herbs or crops such as sweet potato, peanut, and broad bean, otherwise it will harm you without question.

2. Be careful to select disease-free seedlings, and disinfect new seedlings. For the disinfectant, you can use a 50% Tuzet (thiophanate) or 70% thiophanate-methyl or carbendazim 800-1000 times solution and soak for 10-30 minutes. In current cultivation practices, new seedlings must be disinfected.

3. The planting soil must be made harmless. To prevent disease during the seedling stage, you can treat the soil with 70% quintozene powder, using 2.5 kg per mu, adding 50 kg of dry fine soil, mixing evenly, then spreading it in the sowing or cutting furrows, and then sowing or taking cuttings. After planting, you can also spray New High-Fat Film to isolate pests and diseases.

4. When diseased plants are found, dig them out promptly with the soil and burn them; you absolutely must not be reluctant to part with them, and the diseased holes must also be disinfected with lime.

5. In the early stage of the disease, you can broadcast 2.5 kg of 70% quintozene powder per mu, and after applying the pesticide, loosen the soil so that the powder is evenly mixed into the soil; you can also drench the seedling roots with a 500 times solution of 50% carbendazim wettable powder or 1% copper sulfate solution. This should be the most direct and most practical prevention and control method.

How to prevent and control southern blight in tree peonies

Southern blight in tree peonies mainly occurs at the stem base near the ground of the seedlings; soil and fertilizer are the sources of infection for this disease, and the disease is especially severe when sweet potato or soybean is the previous crop. It is relatively likely to occur before and after flowering and during hot, rainy seasons. In the early stage, the above-ground parts show no obvious symptoms; as temperature and humidity rise, the mycelium spreads from the rhizome out onto the soil surface, densely covering the area around the rhizome in a cloud-like mass, and finally forming brown, millet-grain-sized sclerotia. The top shoots of the diseased plant wither, the leaves wilt and droop, and eventually the whole plant dies.

Prevention and control methods:

1. Choose to rotate with gramineous crops; it is not suitable to rotate with root and rhizome medicinal herbs or crops such as sweet potato, peanut, and broad bean.

2. Select disease-free seedlings, and disinfect healthy seedlings. For the disinfectant, you can use a 50% Tuzet (thiophanate) or 70% thiophanate-methyl or carbendazim 800-1000 times solution and soak for 10-30 minutes.

5.
