What are the prevention methods for yellowing leaves of hosta?
During hosta cultivation, yellowing leaves often occur. The main preventive measures are as follows:
1. A shady and humid growing environment. Hosta should be planted in a shaded, relatively humid environment without direct sunlight. Potted hostas should be placed in summer in a spot with more than 80% shade. Otherwise, due to direct strong light, the leaves will at best become thinner and change color from green to yellowish-white; at worst the leaves turn yellow and the leaf margins scorch.
2. The growing medium should drain well and be rich in organic matter. When planting in the open ground, choose a deep, well-drained sandy loam, preferably mixed with potting soil; for containers, choose a loose, fertile potting soil. If the growing medium drains poorly, it will cause waterlogging and root rot, and the leaves will turn yellow.
3. Water and fertilize in moderation. During the hosta growing period, do not water excessively; keeping the soil moist is enough. Summer temperatures are high, so water promptly, and when the air is dry also mist the leaves to prevent the leaf tips and margins from drying and scorching. After each fertilization, spray once with clear water to prevent liquid fertilizer from clinging to the branches and leaves.
