How to propagate ornamental peach? A detailed guide to common propagation methods
Ornamental peach can be propagated by sowing or grafting, and to maintain a high survival rate, grafting is often chosen to propagate ornamental peach flowers. Among grafting methods, budding is most often used, as the survival rate of such grafting can reach over 90 percent. Budding is usually carried out from July to September, with mid-August to mid-September being the best time. The rootstock is mostly a one-year-old peach seedling. When taking the scion bud, choose leaf buds or compound buds from the branches of a high-quality, robust, pest- and disease-free mother ornamental peach tree, avoiding flower buds or dormant buds. The budding site is 60 to 80 cm up the rootstock, using a "T"-shaped budding method. When the grafted bud has survived and grown to 12 to 18 cm, pinch off the growing tip to promote the growth of lateral buds.

Propagation methods and pest and disease control for ornamental peach flowers
Propagation methods:
Ornamental peach can be propagated by sowing or grafting. Sowing is mostly used to grow seedling peach rootstocks. Grafting is generally the method most often used. Among grafting methods, budding is most often used, because budding takes root easily.
Budding can be carried out between July and September, with mid-August to early September being the best time. The rootstock is generally a one-year-old peach seedling, and one-year-old apricot or plum seedlings can also be used. For the scion bud, choose leaf buds or compound buds on robust branches of a superior-variety ornamental peach mother plant; flower buds or dormant buds cannot be used. The budding site should be 60-80 cm up the rootstock, using "T"-shaped budding. When the grafted bud has survived and grown to 12-18 cm long, pinch off the growing tip to encourage lateral buds. Generally, grafted seedlings bloom in 3 years. Cleft grafting is best done in March and is mostly used as a supplementary grafting method after failed budding.
Pests and diseases:
The most serious damage to ornamental peach flowers comes from various aphids, which mostly occur in May. They can be controlled by spraying with 40% omethoate at 1000-1500 times dilution or 80% dichlorvos emulsifiable concentrate at 1500 times dilution.

Peach blossom growing methods and precautions, and an introduction to peach blossom
Peach blossom, the flower that blooms on the peach tree, belongs to the Rosaceae family. The leaves are elliptical-lanceolate, and the drupe is nearly spherical; it is mainly divided into two major categories: fruit peaches and flowering peaches. Peach blossom originated in central and northern China and is now widely cultivated in temperate countries and regions around the world; its propagation is mainly by grafting. Peach blossom can be made into foods such as peach blossom pills and peach blossom tea. It has high ornamental value and is a common material in literary creation. In addition, the elements in peach blossom have medicinal value for unblocking meridians and nourishing the skin. Its flower language and symbolic meaning are: captive of love. Every year in March, various places hold grand peach blossom festivals centered on peach blossoms.
Morphological characteristics of peach blossom
Peach blossom is a deciduous tree. The leaves are elliptical-lanceolate, with coarse serrations along the margin, hairless, and the petiole is 1-2 cm long. The height can reach 3-10 m. There are usually 1 to several glands; the leaf blades are elliptical-lanceolate to obovate-lanceolate, with fine serrations along the margin and hairless on both sides. The flowers are usually solitary, opening before the leaves, about 2.5-3.5 cm in diameter, with short pedicels; 5 sepals, fused at the base into a short calyx tube, hairless. The petiole is 7-12 mm long, with glandular dots. The trunk is grayish brown, rough and pitted. The young branches are reddish brown or brownish green, smooth. The flowers are solitary, in colors such as white, pink, and red, double or semi-double, with a flowering period of March-April. The drupe is nearly round, yellow-green, densely covered with short down on the surface; depending on the variety, the fruit ripens from June to September. It is mainly divided into two major categories: fruit peaches and flowering peaches. Varieties include color variations such as deep red, crimson, pure white, and red-and-white mixed colors, as well as double-petaled and multi-petaled types.
The more important varieties include: nectarine, flat peach, Shouxing peach, and ornamental peach. Among them, nectarine and flat peach are both cultivated as fruit trees, while Shouxing peach and ornamental peach are mainly for ornamental use; Shouxing peach can also be used as a dwarfing rootstock for peach. The tree height is 4-5 m. One-year-old branches are reddish brown. The leaves are mostly lanceolate, with serrations along the margin, and nectar glands often grow at the base of the petiole. There are two flower types: rose type and bell type. Except for flat peach, the drupe is mostly round or oblong, and except for nectarine, the fruit surface is covered with fine hairs. The flesh is white, yellow, or tinged with red, and a few are red; the flesh texture is soft, crisp and firm, or densely fibrous; the pit surface has different groove and dot patterns, all of which are important classification bases for species and variety groups.
Peach blossom is a traditional Chinese garden flower and tree; its tree form is graceful, its branches are well spaced, its flowers are plump, and its colors are gorgeous, making it one of the important early-spring flowering tree species.
The peach fruit is a famous fruit; the peach pit can be pressed for oil; its branches, leaves, fruit, and roots can all be used as medicine; peach wood is fine, dense, and hard, and can be used for carving.
Ecological habits of peach blossom
Peach likes light and requires good ventilation; it likes good drainage and is drought-tolerant; it fears waterlogging, and if waterlogged for 3-5 days, it may shed leaves in mild cases or die in severe cases. It is cold-tolerant, and in East China and North China it can generally overwinter outdoors.
Peach blossom is suitable for light loam soil, and the moisture level is best kept at half moisture. It is not tolerant of alkaline soil, nor does it like soil that is too clayey, and it is not choosy about fertilizer; its other ecological habits are roughly similar to those of plum. However, its growth vigor and branching ability are both stronger than those of plum, but they cannot last long, and it begins to decline from about 20 years of age.
Generally, the tree age can last 20-40 years. Peach trees reach the age of flowering and fruiting early; usually grafted seedlings begin to flower and fruit 1-2 years after planting, and enter the peak flowering and fruiting period in 3-5 years. Growth is rapid, and 2-4 secondary shoots can be produced in a year. The root system is well developed, especially with many fibrous roots; transplanting easily survives. There are 1-3 flower buds per node, almost sessile; flowers and leaves generally emerge at about the same time, and the leaves reach full form after the flowers.
Most peach blossom varieties use long fruit branches as the main positions for flowering and fruiting, but a few varieties such as "Shouxing peach" mostly flower and fruit on short fruit branches and medium fruit branches. In East China and Central China, flowering mostly occurs in mid-to-late March, and the fruit ripens from June to September.
Variety classification of peach blossom
1. Small-flowered white ornamental peach: bears small white flowers, petals elliptical, fewer calyx flowers, flowering branches mostly brown with green spots.
2. Large-flowered white ornamental peach: bears larger white flowers with round petals, and the green flowering branches are densely covered with fine hairs.
3. Five-color ornamental peach: also called sprinkled-gold ornamental peach; most flowers are white or slightly streaked with red, with one or several branches bearing pink flowers, and also one flower or one petal that is half white and half pink. Petals are oblong, and flowering branches are reddish brown.
4. Thousand-petal peach red: the flowers are pink, mostly with three whorls of petals, and the filaments are pink. Some flowers are slightly closer to red, with red filaments, and the flowering branches are purplish red.
5. Red ornamental peach: bears pink flowers, nearly double, and the flowering branches are reddish brown.
6. Crimson peach: the flowers are deep red, the calyx tube is purplish brown, deeply wrinkled and hairy. The flowering branches are greenish brown.
7. Green-flowered peach: the petals are light green, obovate, and the flowering branches are green with reddish-brown spots; the flowering period is relatively late, mostly blooming in mid-April.
8. Weeping ornamental peach: the branches droop, the flowers are double, and the flower colors include deep red, sprinkled gold, light red, and pure white.
In addition, there are also Shouxing peach, purple-leaf peach, and so on; the former bears large white flowers, blooms relatively late, has a short tree form, and larger leaves; the latter's main feature is purple leaves. There are also white ornamental peach, single pink, Pinxia, Wubao peach, Zhaoshou red, green-calyx weeping branch, two-color peach, chrysanthemum peach, and crimson peach, among other types.
Cultivation techniques for peach blossom
Transplanting and planting of peach blossom are mostly carried out in early spring or after leaf fall in autumn and winter, planted in a sunny place with good drainage, and base fertilizer should be applied in the planting hole (human manure and urine, compost, cake fertilizer, bone meal, etc.) to promote flower bud differentiation. Young seedlings can be transplanted bare-root; large seedlings and large trees, especially more valuable varieties, are best transplanted with a soil ball, or at least the roots should be dipped in mud slurry before transplanting, to ensure survival. Training is mainly in the natural open-center form, and pruning can be slightly heavier than for plum, both thinning and heading back, and slender branches, crossing branches, and pest- and disease-damaged branches within the canopy should all be cut off, mostly before flowering; for potted plants, it can be delayed until after flowering. Generally, base fertilizer is applied once each winter, and topdressing is applied once before flowering and once around June, to promote flowering and flower bud formation. In addition, proper shallow cultivation and weeding should be done regularly. The main pests and diseases include green peach aphid, mealy plum aphid, peach leafhopper, oriental fruit moth, peach leaf curl, and peach brown rot, among others, and should be controlled in time.
Key maintenance points
Watering peach blossom: do not water until dry, and water moderately when watering, to prevent waterlogging from causing root rot; spray with new high-fat film to regulate water absorption. Peach trees fear waterlogging, so in summer drainage should be kept unobstructed, especially in seasons when heavy rain comes, and the work of clearing silt from ditches should be done well. Household cultivation of peach blossom must also do good drainage work.
Pruning peach blossom: peach blossom comes from the axillary buds of one-year-old well-developed peach shoots, differentiates flower buds in July, and blooms in the following spring; therefore, attention should be paid to pruning. For young peach trees, the main goal is to build the peach canopy; prune promptly after flowering, and for branches that have already flowered, keep only two or three buds at the base and cut off the rest. In summer, pinch off growing tips of overly vigorous branches to promote flower bud formation. For plants with poor growth, excessive pruning should be avoided; instead, suppress the strong and support the weak, and pay attention to even distribution of branches to create a beautiful plant shape.
Repotting peach blossom: repot once every spring.
Disease control for peach blossom
Pest and disease control for peach blossom: peach blossom can develop leaf curl disease, which can be controlled in the early stage by spraying Bordeaux mixture once every half month and brushing the trunk. Pests such as aphids, nettle caterpillars, and longhorn beetles can be caught manually or killed by spraying pesticides. Peach blossom is a good material for indoor vase arrangements during the Spring Festival; to ensure that it blooms during the Spring Festival, forcing treatment can be carried out. Generally, after leaf fall, move the pot to a cool place below 7°C, then move the pot indoors one to one and a half months before the Spring Festival, first giving a temperature of about 10°C, then gradually raising the room temperature; in an environment of 20-25°C, it can bloom after 15 to 25 days.
Peach shot hole disease, peach anthracnose, and peach gummosis are three of the most common peach blossom diseases.
Peach shot hole disease
It mainly harms leaves, and also harms twigs and fruit. One type is bacterial shot hole disease caused by bacteria, and the other is fungal shot hole disease caused by fungi. Warm and rainy seasons favor the occurrence of bacterial shot hole disease of peach, which is a common disease of peach blossom. Fungal shot hole disease of peach is likely to occur under warm and rainy conditions, and peach blossom plants with weak tree vigor, poor drainage, and poor ventilation and light transmission are susceptible. Strengthening management, applying more base fertilizer, improving the soil, enhancing tree vigor, and improving disease resistance are the main methods for controlling peach shot hole disease. At the same time, pay attention to cutting off diseased and disabled parts to reduce re-infection pathogens. Spraying 3-5° Baumé lime sulfur before bud break in early spring can also control pests; during the growing season, 70% thiophanate-methyl wettable powder at 800-1000 times dilution can be sprayed. For bacterial shot hole disease, bactericidal agents such as streptomycin, oxytetracycline, and validamycin can be selected.
Peach anthracnose
It mainly harms fruit, and leaves and new shoots can also be affected. If peach blossom encounters low temperature and rain during flowering, it is more likely to occur. Eliminating diseased shoots, dead branches, and mummified fruit and reducing overwintering inoculum sources are its main control methods; 5° Baumé lime sulfur can also be sprayed before flowering. After flowering, 50% thiram at 600 times dilution or 70% thiophanate-methyl at 800-**** times dilution can be sprayed.
Peach gummosis
It mainly harms branches and trunks, and is more serious on older trees. Strengthening peach tree management, enhancing tree vigor, improving resistance, promptly and effectively controlling trunk pests, and reducing unnecessary mechanical injury are the main control methods; appropriate insecticides and fungicides can also be selected according to specific circumstances.
Peach leaf curl
It mainly occurs in early spring in low-temperature and rainy seasons. To eliminate overwintering pathogens, the main control methods are spraying 3-5° Baumé lime sulfur and 1:100 Bordeaux mixture; alternatively, when the petals show red, 70% mancozeb at 500 times dilution or 70% thiophanate-methyl at 1000 times dilution can be sprayed. Characteristics: peach blossom is a deciduous tree. Leaves are elliptical-lanceolate, with coarse serrations along the margin, hairless, and the petiole is 1-1.5 cm long. Flowers are solitary, opening before the leaves, almost sessile, mostly pink, with 5 petals; the flowering period is March-April, and the fruit ripens from June to September; varieties include color variations such as deep red, crimson, pure white, and red-and-white mixed colors, as well as double-petaled and multi-petaled types.

Related records
Qianjin Yaofang records: "Three plants of peach blossom, taken on an empty stomach, slim the waist." Mingyi Bielu records: "Peach blossom is bitter in flavor and neutral; it mainly removes water qi, promotes urination and defecation, and expels the three worms." Peach blossom is sweet in flavor, neutral and non-toxic, and can promote digestion and smooth qi, and treat phlegm-fluid retention, accumulated stagnation, difficult urination, and amenorrhea. This formula, as a single ingredient for weight loss and beauty skincare, is an excellent beauty product.
Ancient Chinese people recognized the beauty value of peach blossom very early. The earliest extant pharmaceutical monograph, Shennong Bencao Jing, mentions that peach blossom has the effect of "making people look beautiful." Around Qingming, when peach blossom is still in bud, collect 250 grams of peach blossom and 30 grams of Angelica dahurica, soak them sealed in 1000 milliliters of baijiu for 30 days, drink 15-30 milliliters each morning and evening, and at the same time pour a little of the wine into the palm, rub the two palms until the centers are warm, and rub back and forth on the face; this has a relatively good effect on facial pigment diseases such as chloasma, dark spots, and dull complexion.
The beauty effect of peach blossom mainly comes from the nutrients contained in the flower, such as kaempferol, coumarin, trifolin, and vitamins A, B, and C. These substances can dilate blood vessels, unblock meridians, moisturize the skin, improve blood circulation, promote skin nutrition and oxygen supply, accelerate the excretion of lipofuscin that promotes human aging, and prevent the chronic deposition of melanin in the skin, thereby effectively preventing chloasma, freckles, and dark spots. Ornamental peach is also rich in plant protein and free-state amino acids, which are easily absorbed by the skin, are effective in preventing and treating dry, rough skin and wrinkles, and can also enhance the skin's disease resistance, thereby preventing and treating skin diseases, seborrheic dermatitis, purulent dermatitis, scurvy, and so on, greatly benefiting the skin.
A simple way to use peach blossom for beauty is to mash fresh peach blossoms, take the juice, and apply it to the face, gently massaging for a moment; alternatively, use shade-dried peach blossom powder mixed evenly with honey, apply it to the face, and then wash it off. The nutrients in the fresh flowers can moisturize the skin and change the vitality of facial cells, thereby achieving a beauty effect of rosy complexion, moist, smooth, and clean skin, and full elasticity.
Peach blossom tea: there are also many sellers of peach blossom tea on the market, which is quite convenient, and you can also collect and dry it yourself in early spring for later use. Put winter melon seed and white poplar bark in a cup, add boiling water to brew, cover to prevent the aroma from escaping, and it can be drunk after 10 minutes; it can be drunk as tea, one dose per day, suitable for people with facial dark spots, pregnancy pigment spots, and age spots, as well as people with darker skin in areas with stronger sunlight. It is contraindicated for pregnant women and those with excessive menstrual flow.
Peach blossom congee: take 2 grams of dried peach blossom, 100 grams of japonica rice, and 30 grams of brown sugar. Place the peach blossom in a clay pot, soak in water for 30 minutes, add the japonica rice, simmer the congee over low heat, and when the congee is done, add the brown sugar and mix well before eating. Peach blossom congee can further beautify the face and nourish qi and blood.
In the third month of spring, peach blossoms bloom beautifully. The delicate beauty of peach blossoms often makes people think of the richness of life. The ancients once used "the girl's face and peach blossoms reflect each other's red" to praise a young girl's delicate and beautiful appearance; in fact, peach blossom truly has a beautifying effect. Peach blossom is sweet and pungent in flavor and slightly warm in nature, and has effects such as invigorating blood and pleasing the skin, strongly purging and promoting urination, and resolving stasis and relieving pain. Peach blossom contains components such as kaempferol, carotene, and vitamins, among which kaempferol has a relatively good beauty and skincare effect.
According to Guojing Bencao, collecting fresh peach blossoms and soaking them in wine, then drinking some every day, can make the complexion rosy and beautiful as peach blossom.
Puji Fang, when introducing the preparation method and functions of "peach blossom wine," says: on the third day of the third lunar month, collect fresh peach blossoms, soak them in top-grade baijiu, and take after 49 days. Taken for a long time, it can eliminate illness and benefit the complexion. It has the effects of promoting diuresis, invigorating blood, and relaxing the bowels. It treats edema, limb qi, phlegm-fluid retention and accumulated stagnation, and difficult urination and defecation. Brewing method: an appropriate amount of peach blossom, an appropriate amount of honey, brewed with boiling water.

Propagation methods of peach blossoms
Peach blossoms are mainly propagated by grafting, mostly by cut grafting or shield budding. In East China, wild peach (a semi-cultivated type of peach) is mostly used as rootstock, while in the north, mountain peach is used. However, peach trees grafted onto wild peach or mountain peach rootstock all have the drawbacks of a short lifespan and many pests and diseases; if apricot is used instead as rootstock, although grafting is more laborious and initial growth is slightly slower, the lifespan is longer and there are fewer pests and diseases.
For rootstock seeds, autumn sowing is convenient; alternatively, stratify the seeds in wet sand after autumn, then take them out and sow in early spring the following year. When sowing, the row spacing is usually 40-50 cm, the plant spacing 10-20 cm, the trench 5 cm, and one seed per spot. If sowing in spring and the buds have already sprouted, cover the young buds well with soil.
Budding is mostly carried out in July-August. The rootstock is best a vigorous one-year-old seedling, and a two-year-old rootstock is barely usable. The survival rate of budding is very high, mostly above 95%; in the same year they mostly do not sprout. Check once the following spring: for those that have survived, remove the rootstock buds to let the peach blossom scion sprout; for those that have not survived, cut grafting can be done promptly to propagate them.
Cut grafting is carried out in spring when the buds have begun to sprout. Select vigorous peach blossom branches grown the previous spring, cut them into 6-7 cm long sections, which must carry 2 nodes of buds (1 node is also acceptable), with a cut 2-3 cm long. The rootstock is best a one- or two-year-old seedling; older ones are less good. Cut off the top of the rootstock at about 5 cm above the ground, then cut graft. After grafting, soil must be banked up, slightly covering the top of the scion. The survival rate of cut grafting can generally reach 90% or higher.
The cultural background of peach blossoms: the meaning of dispelling hatred
In the Peach Blossom Spring there is a kind of peach blossom whose petals open layer after layer, blood-red in color, exactly like a peony. Its name is Bitao blossom. It is said that it was transformed from the fresh blood of Chen Bi. Chen Bi bled, yet it could not be stopped. As it flowed and flowed, the last drop of blood was shed; his body tilted, his head leaned against a peach tree, and he became the largest Bitao tree in the peach grove.
Peach blossom in Eight Characters theory
What is commonly called "peach blossom luck" refers to the peach blossom in fate calculation, also called "Xianchi." The following comes from the blog of fate analyst Fang Chen:
When people talk about peach blossoms, it generally cannot help but make one think of subtle matters, and people with families often feel some fear about it. In fact, the role of the peach blossom in fate calculation is very broad; it does not all indicate lust, and it is even less exclusively mistaken for extramarital affairs. Combined with different Eight Characters, the peach blossom has rich meanings. For example, good looks, poetic and artistic sensibility, intelligence, and even a sense of responsibility.
Shen, Zi, and Chen are at You; Yin, Wu, and Xu are at Mao; Si, You, and Chou are at Wu; Hai, Mao, and Wei are at Zi.
Method of checking: Use the year branch or day branch to check the other earthly branches of the Four Pillars; whatever is seen is it.
Xianchi takes the meaning of the sun setting, referring to the time when all things are dim: "The sun rises from Fusang and sets into Xianchi," so the place of the five elements' bathing is called Xianchi. Xianchi is also named peach blossom. It mainly affects a person's emotions, sexual desire, charm, and love and marital life, with incidental influence over matters such as secrecy, darkness, and drink. When one's fate carries the peach blossom, the person is clever by nature, compassionate, fond of romance, versatile, and capable in art. If the peach blossom appears in the Eight Characters and is in a position of growth and prosperity, it indicates that the person is handsome or beautiful. If it is a man, he is generous and fond of socializing, and loves beauty; if it is a woman, she is full of allure, beautiful and attractive. The peach blossom also governs intelligence, unrestrained elegance, and good fate with the opposite sex. The peach blossom most taboo is seeing water; when it sees water, the nature becomes dissolute and licentious, with beauty like a flower, such as a Shen, Zi, or Chen person encountering Gui You or water of Hai, Zi, and Chou. For a peach blossom in the hour branch, it is not suitable to see the Hurting Officer again in the hour stem, because the Hurting Officer itself already harms the Officer star (husband star); if it also sits on the peach blossom, it will lead to having many husbands and an unhappy marriage.
Whenever a woman's fate carries the peach blossom and it combines with other branches, it necessarily indicates that outwardly she is respected, but inwardly she is romantic, and her heart loves wine and lust. If in the original Eight Characters chart the Hurting Officer and Indirect Wealth are many, the person appears very affectionate, and if the original chart again sees metal and water, with many peach blossoms, the nature of being affectionate and full of desire will be further increased, because the Hurting Officer of metal and water is already affectionate and loyal, and if the earthly branches again see Hai, Zi, Chou, or the complete Shen, Zi, Chen, its power is further increased.
When the peach blossom carries the Yang Blade, such as Jia Xu seeing Mao, it is called Xianchi peach blossom; likewise, Geng Shen and Geng Chen seeing You is also peach blossom Yang Blade. It indicates that the person learns much and has many abilities, yet inevitably has many illnesses. If the year or luck period clashes with the peach blossom, one will offend the law because of lust. If a woman's fate has the peach blossom with the Seven Killings and also many combinations, or the day master is strong and the husband is cut off, the Officer is weak and the Eating God is abundant, or the Hurting Officer is fully harmed, she is very likely to become a prostitute or actress.
The so-called "peach blossom" in common speech is taken from the "bathing" position of the five elements of the longitudinal three-combination bureau. For example, in the Hai, Mao, and Wei wood bureau, wood is born in Hai, bathes in Zi, and Zi is the peach blossom. Generally speaking, the peach blossom governs wine and lust, sexual desire, and attraction to the opposite sex; it is relatively casual about sexual love between men and women, and also represents aesthetics and adornment.
Every year in early spring, I always find a Sunday to go for a walk in Cherry Gully in the Fragrant Hills. It is not that I like the huge rock there and the various legends associated with that rock about Cao Xueqin writing The Story of the Stone; I think these legends are completely unfounded. Nor is it that I like the bamboo grove in Cherry Gully; although the bamboo grove here is the greenest in Beijing, it simply cannot compare with the endless moso bamboo groves of my hometown. Nor is it that I like the spring water here, because the spring water here has already dried up, and the remaining thin stream seems like the tears of nature. What I like are the mountain peach blossoms that bloom early on the slopes of Cherry Gully. In the Fragrant Hills, in early spring, these mountain peach blossoms open almost at the same time as the winter jasmine. On the way to Cherry Gully, I do not admire Cherry Gully at close range. I stand on the road on this side of the slope, while the mountain peach blossoms quietly bloom on the opposite slope of the gully among the dark green pines and cypresses. I always gaze at them from afar. The mountain peach blossoms are bright red, and the dark green of the pines and cypresses sets them off exactly like lit lamps, one after another. These lamps are on the other side of the slope, one lit here, one lit there. In that instant of gazing intently, you seem not to be on the Shanyin road; you recall the scene of reading by lamplight at night in a pitch-dark room in childhood, you recall traveling at night and just turning a bend when suddenly the warm scattered lights of a distant village appeared before your eyes, you recall the azaleas seen while going up the mountain to gather firewood in your youth, and you even seem to recall some lines by Tang poets... Almost every year, in the season when the mountain peach blossoms open, the mountain scenery of Cherry Gully in the Fragrant Hills is like an old friend making an appointment to meet, and I cannot not go, for the sake of viewing that scene once a year and experiencing that emotion. Sometimes in the deep quiet of night, I think: is it the mountain peach blossoms that draw me there, or is it the pines and cypresses that draw me there? I soon discover that the beauty there lies neither entirely in the brightness of the mountain peach blossoms nor entirely in the dark green of the pines and cypresses; it is a whole. This whole includes the colors of the mountain peach blossoms and the pines and cypresses, and also my own experiences. If any one of the three - the mountain peach blossoms, the pines and cypresses, and my experiences - were missing, that beauty would not appear. Thus I understood a principle: beauty does not belong purely to the object, nor purely to the subject; beauty belongs to the overall relationship formed by the interaction between subject and object. The categories of peach blossoms.
In fact, "peach blossom" in fate study has many categories.
When the peach blossom is located in the year or month, it is a "peach blossom inside the wall"; in the day or hour, it is a "peach blossom outside the wall," which anyone may pick. The peach blossom likes to share a pillar with the Direct Officer and Direct Seal: it indicates that one has self-control and will not be excessive. It likes to share a pillar with the Eating God: it indicates turning desire into literary and artistic talent. It taboos sharing a pillar with the Seven Killings: it indicates a tendency to commit crimes for sexual desire; for women, being forced, falling into prostitution, a pit of fire, and greeting and seeing off guests in the world of pleasure. Sharing a pillar with the Hurting Officer: it indicates liking the new and despising the old, easily relying on one's talent and looks, chasing fashion, and toying with feelings, becoming a demon of lust. Sharing a pillar with the Rob Wealth: daring to love and dare to hate, snatching love by force, fighting over jealousy, and causing amorous incidents. Sharing a pillar with the Indirect Seal: prone to narcissism, erotic fantasy, and homosexuality. Sharing a pillar with the Parallel Companion: solitary self-appreciation and celibacy.
The peach blossom has many names in fate calculation, with distinctions of spring, summer, autumn, and winter.
From the first month to the third month is Yang spring, and also the season when peach blossoms open, so it is named Peach Blossom Spring. The ancients traveled in spring in the third month; at this time poets and beauties opened their feelings, confided in each other, and the fragrance of peach blossoms drifted... In Peach Blossom Spring, Mao wood is the true peach blossom. In addition, there are more detailed sayings: Xin Mao is dead peach blossom, Gui Mao and Ji Mao are living peach blossom, Yi Mao is benevolent peach blossom, and Ding Mao is lustful peach blossom. Dead peach blossom is not easy to open, while living peach blossom opens easily; the benevolent peach blossom person is kindhearted and has no evil heart; the lustful peach blossom person is low in level in speech and behavior, and excels in lewdness.
The peach blossoms of the fourth to sixth months are the time when peach trees bear fruit, named Peach Blossom Fan. Because the fourth, fifth, and sixth months are summer, the season when people enjoy the cool and escape the heat, fans became a favorite object in the hands of literati and refined scholars. A person with Wu as the peach blossom therefore also appears elegant and free (fire is the image of civilization). But there are also distinctions of category: Ren Wu is dead peach blossom, Jia Wu is living peach blossom, Bing Wu is ceremonial peach blossom, Wu Wu is withered peach blossom, and Geng Wu is golden hairpin peach blossom. Therefore, generally, people with Wu as the peach blossom are relatively responsible in life.
The seventh to ninth months are the time of golden autumn, when metal is in command, so it is named Peach Blossom Knife. Those with You as the peach blossom are true Peach Blossom Knife; Xin You is the strongest Peach Blossom Knife, while Gui You and Ding You are lustful peach blossoms, and those carrying this peach blossom have especially strong kidney function. Yi You is rootless peach blossom, and Ji You is living peach blossom. All people carrying the Peach Blossom Knife easily cause conflicts in marriage or love.
The tenth to twelfth months are winter, a time of hiding and storage, and the season when the ancients enjoyed themselves. They could not avoid drinking and making merry, so it is named Peach Blossom Wine. Because in ancient times places of pleasure drank wine and then improvised merrymaking, this peach blossom is the most lustful. Ren Zi is the true Peach Blossom Wine and the most powerful, Geng Zi is next, Bing Zi and Wu Zi are dead peach blossoms, and Jia Zi is righteous peach blossom. Those carrying Peach Blossom Wine have strong kidney function and harbor lustful thoughts.
In the Four Pillars, the peach blossom is also distinguished according to which pillar it occupies. When the peach blossom is in the year pillar, it is the head and early years; when in the month pillar, it is the chest and shoulders, youth, and the peach blossom in command; when in the day pillar, it is the abdomen and middle age; when in the hour pillar, it is the feet and old age.

The Peach Blossom Pool is a thousand feet deep, yet it cannot match the affection with which Wang Lun sees me off.
Bai Juyi, Peach Blossoms at Dalin Temple
In the human world, April's fragrance is all gone, yet the peach blossoms at the mountain temple have just begun to bloom.
I often regret that spring has gone and cannot be found, not knowing it has turned and come in here.
Cui Hu, Written at the South Village of the Capital
On this day last year within this gate, a fair face and peach blossoms reflected each other in red.
The fair face is gone, no one knows where, yet the peach blossoms still smile in the spring wind.
Du Fu, Random Verses
Heartbroken at the spring river nearing its end, I lean on a cane and slowly walk to stand on the fragrant isle.
The mad willow catkins go off with the wind, the frivolous peach blossoms follow the flowing water.
Yuan Mei, Written on a Peach Tree
In the second month, spring returns on a windy and rainy day; beneath the Bitao blossoms I feel the passing years.
Though there are still three thousand trees of fallen red, they cannot match one fresh newly opened blossom.
Han Yu, Written on Double-Petaled Peach Blossoms
The double peaches of a hundred petals are redder in the evening; peeking at the window and reflecting the bamboo, they appear exquisite.
One should know that the official attendant has returned to heaven, so they deliberately accompany the immortal gentleman lodging in the forbidden palace.
Du Fu, Quatrain on Watching Falling Flowers Before the Boat in Wind and Rain
By the river homes, the peach branches, in cold spring drizzle, emerge from the sparse fence.
Their shadows are secretly seduced by the blue water, while the wind envies the red flowers and blows them backward.
Lu You, Boating to View Peach Blossoms
The Peach Blossom Spring is only in Mirror Lake, its shadow falling on clear waves, ten li of red.
Since parting from the crabapples of Western Sichuan, for the first time I answer the spring wind with drunkenness.
Li Bai, Remembering an Old Visit to the Peach Blossoms of Qiupu
Peach blossoms and spring waters rise; the white stones now appear and disappear.
The swaying dodder branches half sway the moon in the blue sky.
Yuan Zhen, Peach Blossoms
Peach blossoms in shallow and deep places, like makeup applied lightly and heavily.
The spring wind aids heartbreak, blowing down white garments.
Su Shi, Peach Blossoms
Striving to bloom, they do not wait for leaves, densely clustered as if wanting no branches.
By the pond people peer at their reflection, startling fish that splash water onto the bridge.
Yan Xianfeng, Yearning Arises Where the Peach Fragrance Is Smelled
(No. 1)
Yearning arises where the peach fragrance is smelled; from which branch was the fragrant heart picked? Verse after verse of clear lyrics cannot weave a dream; year after year red leaves have not become poetry.
Flowers wither in the willow garden, pitying spring deeply; the brush falls on cloud-patterned paper, writing ideas slowly. I knew early that the Lord of the East would ultimately fail me; at the first meeting at Blue Bridge, let us not know each other.
(No. 2)
Strolling in the courtyard at the time of the full moon, yearning arises where the peach fragrance is smelled. Mandarin ducks lodging together make the fair season short; separated swallows delay their comforting words.
Autumn waters brimming, vainly standing and forming knots; poetic feelings gloomy, bitterly thinking of her. I twist and break the red strings of the Yangguan tune, gifting me a strand of infatuation in deep spring.
(No. 3)
The wind coils around the willow bank, rolling unevenly; mist locks the cold bridge, and spring colors are late. When the mood for wine fades, I pity my lone shadow; yearning arises where the peach fragrance is smelled.
The jade flute conveys resentment, sound after sound complaining; red leaves seal sorrow, word after word infatuated. I gaze to the ends of the earth and do not see you, vainly letting snow-white hair cover black silk.
(No. 4)
Once parted at the Western Chamber, our paths diverged; this spring the fragrant grass is again lush. On the tower, several stanzas of the Yangguan tune; on the jade desk, three thousand poems of wind and moon.
When wild goose tears fall, they hasten parting feelings; yearning arises where the peach fragrance is smelled. Who grieves over the road from Jieshi to Xiaoxiang? Cut the moon into a boat and ride the waves.
(No. 5)
The dim waning moon falls upon flower branches, yet I laugh at the Lord of the East in his lonely hour. Pale willows can grieve that spring passes easily; the lone phoenix still hates that reunion is hard to expect.
Fragrant dust is distant and without news; the jade pavilion is empty, leaving only threads of dream. A sharp cold wind blows me awake from wine; yearning arises where the peach fragrance is smelled.
Cheng Shili, Peach Blossoms
Whenever spring arrives, she smiles first when the door is pushed. The wind moves and fragrance fills the branches; the water reflects her graceful waist.
Tao Qian's dream scene, Li Jiao's tune beyond the qin. Who can be worthy of my little Yaoyao.
Tang Yin, Song of the Peach Blossom An
In Peach Blossom Dock is the Peach Blossom An; in the Peach Blossom An is the Peach Blossom Immortal; the Peach Blossom Immortal plants peach trees, and again picks peach blossoms to exchange for wine money.
When sober from wine, I only sit before the flowers; when drunk from wine, I come again to sleep beneath the flowers; half awake and half drunk, day after day; flowers fall and flowers bloom, year after year.
I only wish to grow old and die among flowers and wine, and do not wish to bow before carriages and horses; the dust of carriages and hoofbeats is the pleasure of the noble, while wine cups and flower branches are the fate of the poor.
If you compare wealth and honor with poverty and lowliness, one is on the ground and one in heaven; if you compare poverty and lowliness with carriages and horses, they get to gallop while I get leisure.
Others laugh at me for being too mad, and I laugh at others for not seeing through; do you not see the tombs of the mighty at Wuling, where without flowers or wine they are hoed into fields.
Li Bai, Reply in the Mountains
You ask why I dwell in the green mountain; I smile and do not answer, my heart at ease.
Peach blossoms and flowing water vanish into the distance; there is another heaven and earth, not the human world.
Wang Wei, Journey to the Peach Blossom Spring
A fishing boat follows the water, loving the spring in the mountains; on both banks peach blossoms line the crossing.
Sitting and watching the red trees, I do not know how far I have gone; traveling to the end of the green stream, I see no people.
At the mountain mouth I sneak along, only then entering the winding recesses; the mountain opens and I gaze widely, suddenly level land.
From afar I see one place where cloud and trees gather; near at hand I enter a thousand homes scattered with flowers and bamboo.
The woodcutter first transmits the Han surname; the residents have not changed their Qin clothing.
The residents all live in Wuling Spring, and beyond worldly things they have raised fields and gardens.
The moon is bright beneath the pines, the house and windows are quiet; the sun rises from the clouds, and chickens and dogs clamor.
Startled to hear that common guests are coming in crowds, they all lead them back home and ask about the capital and towns.
At dawn the lanes are swept and flowers open; at dusk fishermen and woodcutters enter by water.
At first they left the human world to avoid troubles, and when they became immortals they then did not return.
Who in the gorge knows of human affairs? From the world afar, one gazes at empty cloud-covered mountains.
No doubt the spirit realm is hard to hear of and see; with dusty heart not yet exhausted, one longs for home and county.
Emerging from the cave, regardless of parting mountains and waters, leaving home one ultimately plans to wander long.
One claims to have passed through before and not be lost; how could one know the peaks and ravines have now changed.
At the time one only remembered entering the mountain deep; how many times did the green stream reach the cloud forest.
When spring comes, peach blossom water flows everywhere; one cannot tell where to seek the immortal source.
Modern regulated verse: [Zhonghua Xinyun] Seven-character regulated verse - Peach Blossom
(Author: "Shuxin Jiandan" of the Xinghua Wenshe section of the Xinghua Cunluo website, and "Jiangnan Xianke" of the Wu Wen Nong Mo section of the Chizhou Ren website)
Born in the spring month of March,
Passionate and unrestrained, as if about to set the sky ablaze.
Gorgeous branches, blazing, draw butterflies into confusion,
Graceful shadows, tender, beckon poets to linger.
Now and then hidden at the source to view the emerald hues,
From time to time coming beyond the wall to accompany rosy faces.
In poverty or wealth, both can be kept,
Only with the east wind is one hand held.
Xue Ping's poem "Peach Blossom Fan":
I gift you a peach blossom fan,
When flowers bloom, good fortune appears;
Youth fades easily, no need to grieve,
Only wait to go to the Yaochi for the longevity banquet.
Love peach blossoms, admire peach blossoms, paint peach blossoms, savor peach blossoms in the peach blossom grove, peach blossoms grow on the peach blossom fan, the peach blossom is me, and I am the peach blossom.
"Peach Blossom Song" Author: Qin Xiuxi
Rain dyes the crying red, emerald wetness frequent; the painted railing has no strength to send off the fragrant spring.
The peach blossom calls itself companion to famous scholars, yet how can it resist the fisherman asking the ford again.
"Peach Blossom March Day" Author: Zhang Ju
Say not that bees and butterflies come and go in busy haste,
Truly its delicate beauty is unmatched in the world.
Warm rain and fragrant wind frequently look upon it,
When flowers bloom, it is just the fine spring light.
One flower secretly loved her in the depths of his heart for eighteen thousand years without daring to confess; when he summoned the courage to confess, her former fiance's parents, to compensate her, arranged another marriage for her.
Of the first four peach blossoms, three were all bad peach blossoms; the only one that could count as good was still just a budding bone-bud.
The last of these five peach blossoms was her fated husband, the Crown Prince Ye Hua of the Nine Heavens. Gratitudes and grievances entangled like floating clouds passing; she regretted not having met him in the best years of her life.
Genetics calmly tells us: cross-species romance is doomed to have no good outcome.
It is hoped that Shanghai Tangren Film Production Co., Ltd. will adapt it into a film; it is currently in planning.
Ancient prose related to peach blossoms
"Record of the Peach Blossom Spring" by Tao Yuanming of the Jin Dynasty
The flower language of peach blossoms
Its flower language and representative meaning are: captive of love. In China, peach blossoms have always been inseparable from the word love; people often speak of peach blossom luck, precisely because peach blossoms can bring people opportunities for love. With the blessing of peach blossoms, believe that you will soon have your own love, so its flower language is captive of love.
