Carry out pest control during the flowering period to ensure flowering is not affected
Control methods:
1. Remove pest-infested plants in the field and prune infested branches, take them out of the field promptly and burn them.
2. Chemical control: during the dormant period, spray with 1-3 degree lime sulfur mixture; during the nymph hatching period, use 40% omethoate emulsifiable concentrate at 1000 times plus 10% imidacloprid wettable powder at 1500 times; when adults occur, use Kuangshajie at 800-1000 times or 40% Supusha emulsifiable concentrate at 1500 times for uniform spraying. Adding an appropriate amount of diesel oil when spraying can increase its penetration, and the spray solution must be applied thoroughly and evenly. Kuangshajie has a special effect on scale insects.

The flowering period of bird of paradise Pest and disease control of bird of paradise
Bird of paradise (Strelitzia reginae), also called the paradise bird flower, is native to South Africa. After blooming, its appearance resembles a crane holding its head high and gazing into the distance, hence the name bird of paradise. Let's take a look together at the knowledge about the flowering period of bird of paradise and pest and disease control of bird of paradise.
The flowering period of bird of paradise:
Generally speaking, the cultivation period of bird of paradise is very long. It is usually sown in March, and only after 2 years can it be planted out. After planting out, it is propagated by division, and once mature, it blooms every winter, with a very long flowering period that can last until June of the following year. If artificial pollination is carried out during the flowering period, when the flowers wither and set seed, we can also collect and dry them for a new round of sowing.
Pest and disease control of bird of paradise:
1. Bird of paradise gray leaf spot
Bird of paradise gray leaf spot mainly occurs on the leaves. In the early stage, the lesions are dark brown spots. Multiple lesions may join together, or a single lesion may expand into an irregular shape, grayish brown inside with dark brown edges; in the later stage, the lesions dry up, and under humid conditions black granular bodies appear on the lesions.
Solution: Clean up diseased and residual tissues promptly, avoid causing wounds to the plant during care, strengthen ventilation and light penetration, increase foliar water spraying, and keep the leaf surface clean and moist. In the early stage of the disease, spray with 800 times Tujunte broad-spectrum fungicide.
2. Bird of paradise anthracnose
Bird of paradise anthracnose is caused by Colletotrichum, a fungus belonging to the Deuteromycetes. The pathogen overwinters as mycelium on diseased leaves and diseased residues, and in the following spring spreads through wind, rain and insects, invading through wounds. Old leaves generally become diseased in early April, and new leaves begin to become diseased from August. The disease occurs easily when humidity is high, and is aggravated by water accumulation in the pot and poor ventilation. This disease mainly damages leaves. The lesions are round or nearly round, with a reddish-brown thin line at the edge and a flat grayish-brown center, about 6 x 4 cm in size. When the acervuli mature, small black granular dots are exposed. Generally, old leaves become diseased in the first half of the year, and new leaves become diseased in the second half.
Solution: When diseased leaves are found, cut them off from the edge, or remove the diseased leaves, gather them and burn them or bury them deeply. Spray with 25% Tanteling wettable powder at 500 times, or 40% Duoliu suspension concentrate at 500 times, 70% copper oxychloride suspension concentrate at 1000 times, 25% Shibaike emulsion at 800 times, 50% captan at 500 times, or 75% thiophanate-methyl at 1000 times.
3. Bird of paradise gray mold
Solution: Spray water on the plant as little as possible, apply more potassium fertilizer, and ensure a well-ventilated environment; in the early stage of the disease, spray once every 10 days with 75% chlorothalonil wettable powder at 500 times, for a total of 2-3 applications.
4. Bird of paradise damping-off
For the control of bird of paradise damping-off, attention must be paid to soil disinfection. When planting, the spacing between plants should not be too small, planting should not be too deep, old leaves should be pruned promptly, ventilation and nutrition management should be strengthened, and the growth vigor of the plants should be increased.
Solution: Immediately pull out diseased plants once found, and carry out local soil disinfection. During the growing period, spray with validamycin regularly to achieve early control.
5. Scale insects
When cultivated indoors with poor ventilation, scale insect damage is likely to occur, generally parasitizing the stems, leaves and inflorescences of bird of paradise. Their adults and nymphs suck plant sap with piercing-sucking mouthparts, causing leaves to curl, turn yellow and age, affecting plant growth. In severe cases, withered leaves and leaf drop occur, until the whole plant dies; at the same time, when scale insects infest, they excrete large amounts of honeydew from the wounds, polluting the leaves and causing sooty mold, with a layer of black mold produced on the leaves, affecting the normal growth and flowering of bird of paradise.
Solution: Carry out control shortly after the nymphs hatch, before they have formed a waxy shell. Pesticides that can be used include 40% dimethoate at 1000 times, or 50% trichlorfon at 250 times, or 80% dichlorvos emulsifiable concentrate at 1000-1500 times, or 2.5% deltamethrin emulsifiable concentrate at 2000-2500 times. Generally, spraying 1-3 times in succession with an interval of 7-10 days each time gives better results. In addition, special attention should be paid to the fact that scale insects easily develop resistance to chemicals, so the use concentration and alternation of pesticides must be well controlled.
6. Scarab beetles
Scarab beetle larvae are called white grubs. They feed underground on the young tender parts of bird of paradise roots, often causing damaged and broken roots. When the damage is light, seedling growth is hindered, leaves turn yellow, or the plant becomes weak; when the damage is severe, the seedlings wilt, turn yellow and die.
Solution: During the adult occurrence period, mix sugar, vinegar, baijiu and water in a ratio of 1:3:2:20 to make a liquid, add a small amount of pesticide liquid, put it into a canning jar, and hang it in the planting area for trapping and killing. When pest damage occurs, directly spray 50% malathion at 1000-1500 times for control.
7. Stem borers
Bird of paradise stem borers, also called bird of paradise shoot borers, specifically damage tender shoots and flower buds, with frass left at the bore holes, causing great harm. The main mode of damage is that the larvae bore into the tender stems of bird of paradise, destroying the growing point and causing dead-heart seedlings.
Solution: During the larval stage, use 50 ml of 4.5% beta-cypermethrin emulsifiable concentrate, or 50 ml of 20% fenvalerate emulsifiable concentrate, diluted with 60 kg of water for spraying, once a week, spraying 2-3 times in succession.
8. Snails
Snails mostly hide in dark, moist places during the day and come out at night. Especially in the early morning or evening after heavy rain, they come out in groups to gnaw on the tender leaves and flowers of bird of paradise, affecting its ornamental value.
Solution: Use 50% phoxim, 80% dichlorvos and others at 1000-1500 times for control, spraying once every 5-7 days, for 3-5 times in succession.
Bird of paradise is an ornamental flower that we like very much. Its flower shape is peculiar, and its leaves are broad and emerald green, giving people a fresh and comfortable feeling. Using it to decorate the home will bring very good effects. However, when caring for bird of paradise, attention must be paid to the problem of pests and diseases, so as not to affect its ornamental effect.
How to control pests and diseases during the grape flowering period
It is now the grape flowering period. The purpose of controlling pests and diseases during the grape flowering period is to ensure complete inflorescences and good pollination.
Using pesticides during the grape flowering period may affect pollination. To ensure safety, do not use pesticides during the flowering period. If pre-flowering control measures are good, diseases will not occur during the flowering period. If inflorescences are attacked by diseases during the flowering period or sudden pest outbreaks occur (such as scarab beetles), remedial measures should be taken, choosing pesticides that are safe for grape flowers, young fruit, tender shoots and young leaves for spraying.
Measures for controlling pests and diseases during the grape flowering period:
1. If gray mold occurs during the flowering period, causing rotten inflorescences, rotten pedicels, etc., use 16% Huipu at 1500 times + 22% imazalil at 1500 times to treat the fruit clusters;
2. If downy mildew occurs during the flowering period, causing pedicels and rachises to turn yellow and dry up, use 25% Baobei at 1500 times + 50% Jinkeke at 2500 times to treat the fruit clusters;
3. Although the problem of large and small berries appears in the middle and late stages of grape growth, it is directly related to management before and after flowering. If large and small berries have already been found, there is no remedial measure, so attention should be paid to early management. During this period, boron fertilizer and zinc fertilizer should be applied according to growth conditions and soil fertility testing. In addition, measures such as regulating nitrogen fertilizer supply and tying shoots should be used to control vigorous shoot growth (reply "large and small berries" to view more related preventive measures);
4. If scarab beetle damage is found, immediately apply insecticide, such as 50% Kuangci at 3000 times.
Notes: Choose the afternoon of a sunny day for pesticide application, and ensure that after application the spray liquid can dry before dark. This can avoid pesticide damage.
