A Detailed Guide to Propagating Gazania from Seed
Seed propagation is a fairly common method of propagating gazania. Gazania can be sown in spring in April, or in autumn in September. When propagating gazania from seed, pay attention to the following two points: first, cover the seeds with a layer of soil; second, do a good job of keeping them moist. The moisture-retention work must be done well; this step is very important.
With seed propagation of gazania, it takes several months from sowing to the final blooming. This period of time is relatively long, so we must be patient. During this time, we must do sufficient care work. Keep plenty of sunlight, keep the air circulating, ensure the soil is airy and well-draining, control the amount of watering, and so on. The purpose is to help gazania sow better and then grow more gazanias.

Propagation Methods for Gazania
Propagating Gazania from Seed
Seed propagation is a fairly common method of propagating gazania. Gazania can be sown in spring or in autumn. When propagating gazania from seed, pay attention to the following two points: first, cover the seeds with a layer of soil; second, do a good job of keeping them moist.
With seed propagation of gazania, it takes several months from sowing to the final blooming. When sowing, the harvested seeds need to be pre-germinated; the paper-towel method is very simple. Sow the pre-germinated gazania seeds onto the seedbed by broadcasting: after scattering the seeds, cover them with a layer of fine soil. After sowing, carry out routine care, keeping the temperature between 18°C and 21°C; seedlings usually emerge in 3 days. When the seedlings have grown 1 pair of leaves, they can be transplanted. After transplanting, the seedlings continue to grow; control the temperature and moisture, ensure plenty of sunlight, keep the air circulating, and plant them out in the ground after frost.
Propagating Gazania by Division
Gazania can be propagated by division. In spring, when the plant begins to sprout and before the stems and leaves of the gazania start to grow, dig the mother plant of the gazania out of the ground; if it is in a pot, take it out of the pot and remove the soil. Use a small knife to cut the gazania plant apart from the roots, dividing it into several small clumps, each with buds and roots, and plant them separately.
Propagating Gazania by Cuttings
For gazania cutting propagation, if conditions allow it can be done all year round; for open-field cultivation, choose spring or autumn for cuttings. Take the small shoots on the gazania plant and use them as cuttings, keeping just 2 leaves. Insert the cuttings into a sand bed, keep the temperature at 20-25°C and the humidity at a high level, and they will take root in just over 20 days. If the cuttings are treated with rooting powder before cutting, rooting can be accelerated. Once the gazania has rooted, it can be transplanted and planted out.
III. The Blooming Period of Gazania
The blooming period of gazania is relatively long. Gazania generally blooms in late spring and early summer, and can continue from April to May. But if we want to see gazania bloom all year round, we must grow it in a greenhouse, and then it will bloom all year round.
When gazania blooms, its flowers open facing the sun: they open when the sun rises in the morning, and close their petals when the sun sets at dusk, then open again the next day, repeating like this, and only wither after about 10 days.
That is all for today's lesson. I believe you now have a deep understanding of sowing gazania, and I hope you can propagate more gazanias!
