A Detailed Guide to Propagating Yucca (Yucca elephantipes) by Cuttings
Cuttings Timing
Yucca can be propagated by cuttings, and cuttings can generally be taken throughout the entire growing season, but spring and autumn are the best times for cuttings. Cutting propagation can be combined with pruning the yucca.
Selecting Cuttings
When taking cuttings from yucca, suitable cuttings need to be chosen. Generally, cut branches about 10 cm to 30 cm long, place them in a cool, well-ventilated spot to dry, and once the wounds on the yucca have dried, they can be inserted into clean river sand. Roots will generally form in about one month.
Note that the cut surface should be disinfected, and when inserted into the sand bed, about two-thirds of it should be covered with sand.
Cuttings Care
After the yucca cuttings are taken, reasonable care is needed. The temperature should be kept between 20°C and 30°C, which is favorable for root growth. In the early stage of cutting, direct sunlight should be avoided, and relatively high air humidity should be maintained.

Cultivation Methods for Yucca
Soil
For potted yucca, equal parts of garden soil, leaf mold and river sand can be mixed as the growing medium. Yucca has strong adaptability and is not strict about soil requirements, but it grows best in loose, fertile, slightly acidic soil with good drainage. It can be cultivated with loam soil rich in humus from under pine and cypress trees mixed with river sand, or with leaf mold mixed with river sand.
Humidity
During the growing season, simply keep the potting soil moist. Avoid overwatering, which causes waterlogging and makes the roots and stems rot. During the growing season, a certain level of air humidity needs to be maintained. For example, when the temperature is 20°C, a humidity of about 50% is sufficient; when the temperature is about 30°C, the humidity needs to be adjusted to about 70% to maintain good growth momentum.
Fertilizing
It has vigorous vitality and does not have high fertilizer requirements. During the vigorous growth period, applying liquid fertilizer 3-2 times per month is enough.
Light
Yucca growth requires sufficient sunlight. Apart from appropriate shading during the hot summer, it can grow under full sun in the other seasons.
Disease Control
Under conditions of high temperature and high humidity, yucca is highly prone to leaf spot disease. When it occurs, blackish-brown spots appear at the leaf tips and leaf margins, and in severe cases they spread to most of the leaf blade. It should be controlled promptly, and the appropriate chemical is 800-1000 times diluted chlorothalonil.
The above are the cultivation methods for yucca. Now let's take a look at yucca cutting propagation!
Propagation Methods for Yucca
Yucca is commonly propagated by cuttings. Cuttings can be taken throughout the entire growing season, but spring and autumn are better. When taking cuttings, cut 10-30 cm shoots, wait for the wounds to dry slightly, dip the base in yellow mud slurry, and insert them into clean river sand. Roots will form in about one month.
You can also cut 30-40 cm long stem sections, disinfect the wounds with fungicide, dip them in yellow mud slurry, lay them horizontally on a sand bed, and cover them with 1/2-2/3 sand, so that the latent buds on the stem sections sprout; or seal the top end of the stem section with paraffin and insert it into the sand bed, so that the upper latent buds sprout one after another. When the buds grow to more than 10 cm, cut them off and take cuttings.
