What causes the false aralia to drop its leaves?
First, the temperature fluctuates too much. Its optimal growing temperature is 20-25°C, and in winter the temperature should preferably not drop below 3-10°C: if the temperature changes greatly within a short period, it will cause a large number of leaves to fall. Therefore, once it is growing steadily in a spot indoors, generally do not move it around casually:
Second, the potting soil is too dry and the air is dry, which easily causes the plant to drop a large number of leaves, but the fallen leaves are mainly in the middle and lower parts.
Third, the temperature in the overwintering shed or room is too low, and leaf drop is caused by cold damage! Fourth, watering too much in winter causes waterlogged leaf drop: generally, as long as the root system of the potted plant has not died, giving it a heavy pruning at the same time as repotting in spring can encourage it to send out new shoots from the lower part.
Now you know the reasons why the false aralia drops its leaves, so what do we need to pay attention to in daily care?
False aralia
The false aralia is a shrub or small tree. Grown indoors it can reach 1.5 m tall. It has more leaflets than the other two plants, generally up to 5-11, and its leaf shape is quite distinctive, lanceolate with serrated leaf margins, making its leaves the narrowest and longest of the three. So you can identify it by leaf shape and tell whether it is a false aralia.
How to grow the false aralia
Temperature
The false aralia likes warmth and is not cold-tolerant. Its suitable growing temperature is between 18°C-28°C, and the overwintering temperature in winter should not be lower than 10°C. In summer, if the temperature is too high, it needs shading and misting to cool it down. As the weather gradually turns cooler in autumn, move the false aralia indoors to a warm place for the winter in good time. After placing the false aralia indoors, be careful that the indoor temperature does not fluctuate between hot and cold, which would chill the plant.
Light
The false aralia likes plenty of light but cannot tolerate direct sunlight. When planting the false aralia, in spring and autumn you can let it receive plenty of light, while in summer it needs a little shading to avoid direct strong light; in winter no shading is needed, and it should also be given supplementary light. Be careful to give the false aralia plenty of sunlight, otherwise the plant will become leggy and lose its looks.
Water
The false aralia likes a moist environment. In spring and autumn water should be sufficient, but water only when the soil is dry and let it dry out between waterings. To maintain a certain air humidity, mist the leaves and the surrounding area frequently to prevent the leaves from curling and dropping due to dry air. In winter, when the temperature drops, control watering, and you can use misting instead of watering.
Fertiliser
The false aralia has a relatively high demand for fertiliser. When growing the false aralia, you need to apply some compound fertiliser granules or mixed fertiliser water frequently during the growing season. In summer, stop fertilising when the temperature is above 30°C; after autumn begins, gradually reduce fertilising as well, and when the temperature drops below 10°C, stop fertilising.
