What are the light requirements for growing spider plants?

Spider plants prefer a semi-shaded environment and are afraid of direct strong light. Especially in northern regions, during spring, summer, and autumn, 50%-70% of sunlight needs to be blocked, otherwise sunscald is likely to occur and plant growth will be severely poor. Variegated varieties are especially afraid of strong sunlight. Variegated varieties grow more vividly in places with weak light, and the white and yellow parts become more prominent. In winter, when light is weaker, they can be placed in a bright spot; in summer, keep them in a cool, ventilated place for care and management.

Precautions for growing lipstick plants

During the flowering period of lipstick plants, attention should be paid to applying less nitrogen fertilizer, increasing the intensity of indoor light, and controlling a lower room temperature, which helps promote flowering. In addition, another point to note is that after the winter flowering period ends, the remaining stems that have already flowered should be pruned away in time. This allows the lipstick plant to save nutrients and encourage new branches to grow.

5. Precautions for growing spider plants

(1) After repotting in spring, place it in a semi-shaded spot for cultivation. Once established, it can be moved to a spot with light. Spring is a season when spider plants grow relatively quickly, so a sufficient supply of water and fertilizer should be ensured. When the temperature is not high, it can be grown under full light; after the temperature rises, block the light around noon. If during the growing period the leaf color is found to be dull and pale green, urea at 1000 times dilution can be applied 1-2 times. If grown indoors, when light is insufficient the leaf color easily becomes yellow-green, so it can be moved out to increase light.

(2) Spider plants tolerate high temperatures but not intense sunlight. If sunlight is strong, spider plant leaves are easily scorched, so shade is needed in summer. At home, spider plants can be placed indoors in a bright spot for viewing. In summer, water supply should be strengthened, and water should be sprinkled frequently to increase air humidity.

(3) In early autumn, after the temperature becomes cool, spider plants grow faster, so the morning and evening light can be appropriately increased, topdressing can be added, and attention should be paid to water supply. Because the autumn climate is dry, more water should be sprinkled to increase air humidity. After the temperature drops in late autumn, care should be taken to keep the indoor temperature above 5°C, and gradually move it to a spot with light for cultivation, keeping the potting soil moist with a slight dry tendency. When the temperature is high at noon, water should be sprayed on the leaves and surroundings several times.

(4) Spider plants are not cold-tolerant. Keeping the room temperature above 5°C allows them to overwinter safely. When the winter temperature is relatively low, spider plants should be placed under full light, watered sparingly, kept with the potting soil slightly on the dry side, and not fertilized.
