Usually Callistemon will bloom. If it really doesn't bloom, it may be due to the following reasons:

Low temperature

Callistemon is a warmth-loving plant, and when summer comes, rising temperatures don't affect it much. But Callistemon is relatively intolerant of cold, and low temperatures have a very big impact on it. In the north it can only be grown in pots in a relatively warm greenhouse; if planted outdoors it definitely won't bloom, and may even die.

Unsuitable soil

Callistemon prefers fertile and moist acidic soil. If the soil is unsuitable, growth will be relatively slow. Callistemon also has fairly strong sprouting ability and can tolerate pruning. Therefore, Callistemon not blooming may be due to unsuitable soil or insufficient fertility.

Now we know that Callistemon generally does bloom, and only fails to bloom under certain special circumstances. Having learned why Callistemon won't bloom, let's now learn about its uses!

The price of weeping bottlebrush

For watering weeping bottlebrush (Callistemon viminalis) normally, follow the principle of "water when dry, stop when wet." In spring when the weather is dry and in the hot, high-temperature summer season, you can spray water on the branches and leaves 1—2 times a day. If you water too much, it will cause waterlogging in the pot soil.

The weeping bottlebrush has a terminal umbel inflorescence. Each inflorescence has 2-6 flowers, and the flowers droop; the pedicel is 1-1.5(-2) cm long, becoming upright and thicker when fruiting, and can reach 3 cm long; the calyx is green, with 5 sepals, triangular; the corolla is bell-shaped, white-green, about 1 cm long, with 5 shallow lobes at the mouth, and the lobes curl backward; there are 10 stamens, the filaments are white, about 5 mm long, broad and flat at the lower part and with white soft hairs, and the anthers have 2 reflexed awns; the ovary is cylindrical, 5-locular, with 10-15 ovules per locule, and the style is about 5 mm long, hairless.

The capsule of the weeping bottlebrush is elliptical, about 1 cm long and 6-8 mm in diameter, yellow-brown after drying, hairless, ribbed, with a persistent style at the tip, 5-valved, with several seeds per locule; the seeds are slender and small, about 2 mm long, with 2 membranous wings.

In winter, it is advisable to pinch the perennial plants of the tooth-edged enkianthus (Enkianthus serrulatus), cutting off the top 5 cm to 6 cm of tender shoots to encourage more branching. During the summer dormancy period, cut back the thin, weak, drooping leggy branches so that flowering is abundant in autumn. For newly cultivated young plants, when they grow to 20 cm to 30 cm, remove the top to set the trunk, encouraging side branches to form a plant shape with many, evenly distributed branches.
