How to choose hyacinth bulbs? A guide to hydroponic care methods
Hyacinth, also commonly known as Dutch hyacinth or five-color hyacinth, originated in Southern Europe, the eastern Mediterranean coast and Asia Minor. Its petals come in white, blue, purple, pink and other colors, and it carries the meaning of "good fortune and harmony, warmth and peace." Today, the editor will talk about hyacinth hydroponic methods and care guide.

1. How to choose hyacinth bulbs?
For hyacinth bulbs, it is best to choose ones with bright skin color, firm texture, and no disease spots or insect holes. Nowadays, many hybrid-cultivated varieties have more complex colors. If there is anything you do not understand, you can first consult the shop owner and buy only after understanding clearly.
2. Hydroponic method
(1) From October to November each year, dig up the stored bulbs and select robust bulbs with a relatively large diameter, an intact basal plate, and plump apical buds. After peeling off the bulb skin, rinse them clean with water and place them in a special gourd-shaped vessel, or in a transparent container with a relatively small mouth, or in a shallow container with a solid substrate for support. When choosing a container for hyacinth hydroponics, it is best to choose a relatively small one, as this helps the basal plate sit steadily at the mouth of the bottle.
(2) Pour water into the container. The amount of water should reach the bottom of the basal plate so that it just touches the water surface. Note that the bulb must not get wet. This helps induce roots to grow from the base and extend into the water.
(3) Move the hyacinth to a cold, cool and dark place, or cover it with black cloth to block light. After about one month, new roots will emerge.
3. Care guide
(1) Temperature and light
The suitable temperature during the rooting period of hyacinth is 2-6°C, during the bud sprouting period it is 5-10°C, and during the flowering period it is 15-18°C. In the early stage, provide 1-2 hours of light per day. As the hyacinth gradually grows, light can be increased to 7-8 hours.
(2) Changing water
After the hyacinth develops hydroponic roots, move it to a place with relatively strong light and change the water every 7 days.
(3) Fertilizing
When changing the water for hyacinth, nutrient solution can be added, which is beneficial for hyacinth flowering;
Before the hyacinth blooms, spray a 0.1% potassium dihydrogen phosphate diluted solution weekly, or replace the nutrient solution once a month.
(4) Pest and disease control
Hydroponic hyacinths have relatively few pests and diseases. If insect pests occur, manual capture is the main method.
How to hydroponically grow hyacinth? Hydroponic care methods for hyacinth
Hyacinth likes sunlight and tolerates cold. It is suitable for growing in a cool, moist environment and in loose, fertile sandy soil, and it dislikes waterlogging. It likes a warm, moist winter and a cool, slightly dry summer, and a sunny or semi-shaded environment. It likes fertilizer and is suitable for fertile, well-drained sandy loam. It can be grown in the ground, in pots, or in water.
1. In December, place the bulb in a wide-mouthed glass bottle with a grid and add a little charcoal to help disinfect and prevent rot. The water level should be limited so that it does not touch the bottom of the bulb. Then place it in a dark place and cover the bottle with black cloth. Room temperature 5-10°C. This is because darkness helps hyacinth root. After more than 20 days in this way, the roots will sprout in a completely dark environment, and then it can be taken outside to receive sunlight.
2. After the root system has grown fully, move it to a bright place without direct sunlight, with the temperature controlled above 10°C, and change the water once every 2-3 days to keep the water clean. Let the water reach the roots; there is no need to water or fertilize.
3. After the leaves grow out, gradually increase light. After buds appear, it can receive direct sunlight, but be careful to frequently change the direction of light exposure so that the leaves and flower stems grow robustly and upright, preventing them from leaning to one side. Gradually raise the temperature to about 20°C, and change the water once every 3-4 days until the flowers fade.
4. After the hyacinth flowers fade, cut off the flower stem, take out the bulb and plant it in a pot so that the bulb can become plump. When the leaves wither, dig out the bulb and store it properly. In autumn, it can be planted again in a pot to restore its vigor. If the bulb is stored well, it can still bloom the next year, but the flowers will be smaller and the flower scape will also shrink, mainly because the bulb has degenerated. Therefore, for hyacinth cultivation, it is better to buy new bulbs after one year of planting.

1. Pour clean water into the vase. The water surface should be 2-5 mm from the basal plate of the bulb (do not soak the entire bulb in water, so as to ensure the roots can breathe freely). As the root system grows, gradually lower the water surface to encourage the roots to grow downward neatly.
2. The most suitable rooting temperature is 9°C. During the rooting period, place it in a completely dark environment. You can wrap the vase with black paper to block light to help root growth. Please place the vase in a cool, ventilated place.
3. When the flower buds grow to 5-8 cm high (about 8-12 weeks), the vase can be placed in a warm environment, with the optimum temperature being 15°C-21°C.
4. Change the water about once every 7 days. When changing the water, just pull the hyacinth bulb partly out of the hydroponic bottle, avoiding breaking the roots.
Hyacinth pot cultivation
1. When to plant?
Start planting in October-December when the temperature is below 10°C.
2. Where to plant?
Well-drained, loose soil, pH 6-7. Choose a pot with holes at the bottom. Generally, a 160# pot can plant 3 bulbs. Or plant directly in a courtyard in a sunny or semi-shaded place.
3. How to plant?
Plant with the bud pointing upward, and cover the bulb with 2-5 cm of soil. After planting, place the whole pot in a cool place to help rooting. After the leaves unfold, move it to a sunny or semi-shaded place for normal management. For courtyard planting, space the bulbs 10 cm apart and cover with 5-10 cm of soil.
4. How to care for it?
Water thoroughly after planting, then water when the soil is dry. After the leaves grow out of the soil surface, a special bulb fertilizer can be used as appropriate.
5. How to handle it after flowering?
After the flowers fade, cut off the flower stem, apply additional special fertilizer, and manage as usual. After the leaves wither, dig out the bulbs, clean them, select large bulbs, and store them in a dry, cool, ventilated place. Replant from September to December.
In this way, you can beautifully enjoy hyacinths...
