Detailed Explanation of Key Cultivation and Management Techniques for the White Lingzhi Mushroom (Pleurotus nebrodensis)
The white lingzhi mushroom (Pleurotus nebrodensis) is extremely sensitive to temperature. Its mycelium has a relatively wide temperature tolerance range and can survive at 4-37°C, with 23-28°C being optimal. The fruiting temperature range is 0-25°C. In the early growth stage, the primordium stage is best at 8-13°C, and in the later stage, young mushroom growth is best at 15°C. The mycelial growth of the white lingzhi mushroom requires...
Cultivation TimeFor off-season cultivation, the inoculation period is from June to July. After 20-30 days of mycelial running, the bags are overwintered from July to August, and fruiting occurs from late September to October.
Substrate Formulas
Formula 1: cottonseed hulls 94%, cornmeal 2.8%, gypsum 1%, slaked lime 2%, urea 0.2%. Formula 2: cottonseed hulls 40%, sawdust 40%, wheat bran 10%, cornmeal 8%, sugar 1%, gypsum 1%. The moisture content of the above formulas should be maintained at 60%-65%.
Preparation and Fermentation of the Substrate
Dissolve the water-soluble ingredients such as sugar and urea in water. Mix the remaining ingredients, add water, and stir repeatedly until evenly combined. Pile into a trapezoidal heap 1-1.5 m wide, 1.2-1.5 m high, and of unlimited length. Punch ventilation holes every 30-50 cm on the heap, with a hole diameter of 7-10 cm, and punch 2 rows of ventilation holes on each side. Cover the top of the heap with plastic film to retain moisture, leaving 30-50 cm at the bottom of the heap uncovered. When the heap temperature rises to 65°C-70°C, turn the heap. Ferment for 7-10 days, turning the heap 3 times.
Bagging
The white lingzhi mushroom is always cultivated in bags. The cultivation bags are made of high-density polyethylene or polypropylene film with a thickness of 0.04-0.06 cm, a width of 15-17 cm, and a length of 35 cm. Before bagging, adjust the moisture of the fermented substrate so that its moisture content remains at 60% and its pH remains at 7.5-8.5. When bagging, first tie off one end of the bag, then evenly fill the substrate into the bag, with 0.95-1.05 kg of substrate per bag.
Sterilization
Sterilize the filled bags under high pressure for 2-3 hours, or under normal pressure for 10-18 hours. After sterilization, remove the bags and place them in the inoculation room or a clean place to cool.
Inoculation
When the bag temperature drops to 30°C, open the bag mouth in the inoculation room or inoculation box, and under aseptic operation, inoculate the spawn from both ends or one end, with an inoculation amount of 10% of the substrate.
Mycelial Running Management
Move the inoculated bags into the incubation room and stack them on the bed frames. Spray carbendazim to disinfect the incubation room before placing the bags. After placing the bags, spray disinfectant once every 5-7 days. Keep the incubation room temperature at 22°C-27°C and the air humidity at around 70%. Incubate in the dark. After 10-15 days of mycelial running, when the mycelium at both ends has covered the substrate surface, turn the stacks. After 35-40 days of incubation, the mycelium can fully colonize the bags.
Overwintering of the Bags
After the bags are placed in the overwintering site, check the humidity regularly and provide ventilation. When the autumn temperature turns cool, move the bags into the mushroom house for management.
