How should shiitake mushrooms be managed in winter and spring? Please advise
The winter and spring management of shiitake mushrooms is the management during the fruiting period, and this period determines the level of economic benefit of shiitake mushrooms. Before fruiting, the fruiting shed should be built first. A two-shed system can be adopted: one for cultivating small mushrooms and the other for cultivating flower shiitake mushrooms. The fruiting shed should be chosen in a place with flat terrain, convenient drainage and irrigation, high and dry with a sunny aspect, and close to clean water quality, with sheds built centrally to facilitate management of loading and unloading materials. Specifications for the fruiting period: width 3.2-3.4 m, length 2.2-2.4 m; one shed can hold 2000 bags. The most suitable temperature for the development of small mushrooms is about 15°C; they grow longitudinally and transversely at the same time, and the mushroom bodies are symmetrical. The suitable humidity is 85%, and the light should mainly be scattered light. During fruiting, ventilate in the morning in early winter and early spring; in deep winter, ventilate from 12 noon to 4 pm. When the temperature is high, the ventilation time should be longer; when the temperature is low, the time should be slightly shorter. The air in the shed should remain fresh and the humidity should be maintained, and straw curtains need to be placed over the small mushroom shed. Flower shiitake mushrooms produce different flower shiitake mushrooms at different stages of the young mushroom; when the cap diameter reaches 2-2.5 cm, chrysanthemum-petal-shaped flower shiitake mushrooms are produced. This kind of flower shiitake mushroom has the best quality and the highest price. When the cap diameter reaches 4-5 cm, scattered-flower shiitake mushrooms of poorer quality are formed. The optimum temperature for cultivating flower shiitake mushrooms is 8-18°C, and a relatively large temperature difference is needed; the humidity in the early stage is 65%-70%, and 55%-65% is more suitable in the later stage. Cultivating flower shiitake mushrooms requires relatively strong light and relatively high humidity, otherwise nail mushrooms that are wet inside and dry outside will form. The standard for moving the mushroom bags from the small mushroom shed to the flower shiitake shed is: the young mushroom cap diameter is 2-2.5 cm. In winter, clear days with a light breeze are the best weather for cultivating flower shiitake mushrooms. In early winter and early spring, the film can be lifted in the evening and morning to air the mushrooms. In early winter, it is suitable to lift the film from 10 am to 4 pm, and cover the film at night.
