For corn borers, the following methods can be used for control:
At the funnel stage of corn, broadcast Miral (isofenphos-methyl) into the funnel, at a rate of 1 kg/mu.
During the ear stage of corn, the chemical irrigation control methods include: pouring chemical solution into the tassel: 25% bisultap aqueous solution at 500 times dilution.
50% dichlorvos emulsifiable concentrate at 800 times dilution, 90% trichlorfon crystals at 800-1000 times dilution.
50% phoxim emulsifiable concentrate at 800-1000 times dilution, 50% methamidophos emulsifiable concentrate at 2000-2500 times dilution.
50% ethion emulsifiable concentrate at 1000 times dilution, etc. These chemical solutions are all poured at a rate of 10 ml per plant onto the tassels of corn at the tassel-emerging stage.
Dripping chemical solution onto the silks: Pour 50% dichlorvos emulsion at 800 times dilution into a small-mouthed bottle, and plug the bottle mouth with a stopper fitted with a thin plastic tube. When pollen shedding of corn is basically finished and the larvae are still concentrated on the silks causing damage, drip a few drops of the chemical solution at the base of the silks at the top of the ear. The chemical solution then seeps into the silks, fumigating and killing the larvae damaging the top of the ear.
