Liu Jun, a farmer from Group 3 of Huangzhanwan Village in Huangzhanwan Township, is a well-known local large-scale grower of seed-production flowers. Five years ago, he was the first in the village to start growing seed-production flowers, cultivating more than 10 mu of various seed-production flowers and earning more than 30,000 yuan that year. The considerable economic returns gave him great confidence, and today flower seed production has become his main industry for increasing income and achieving prosperity.

"This year I planted 30 mu of seed-production flowers. At the current market price, one mu can bring in 4,000 yuan a year, far more than growing traditional crops." Liu Jun said. Under Liu Jun's demonstration and leadership, 80% of the farmers in Huangzhanwan Village have developed the flower seed production industry.

Xu Xuewu, Party branch secretary of Huangzhanwan Village, could not hide his delight: "Five or six years ago, very few villagers grew seed-production flowers. After trial planting showed that the seed production industry was highly profitable, everyone's enthusiasm soared. Now 40% of the village's farmland is planted with flowers."

In recent years, Yumen City has focused on the goal of "increasing industry efficiency and raising farmers' incomes," continuously optimizing the industrial planting structure, and vigorously developing efficient and distinctive agriculture based mainly on flower and vegetable seed production. By combining centralized seedling cultivation by enterprises with dispersed planting by farmers, and integrating experimental demonstration with the spread of science and technology, and relying on seed companies such as Dunhuang Seed and Jiuquan Lvfeng Company, it has guided farmers to grow seed-production flowers. To date, the total area of seed-production flowers developed in townships such as Huangzhanwan, Chijin, Qingquan and Changma in Yumen City has reached 26,000 mu, with more than 20 varieties of flower seed production developed, and an average return of more than 3,000 yuan per mu, becoming a new highlight for farmers' prosperity and income growth.
