Agricultural insurance is available for watermelon and flower cultivation as well as for livestock and aquaculture operations
Jinghua Times report (reporter Niu Yinghui) Insurance can provide protection not only for people and property, but also for our basic needs of food, clothing, housing and transportation. As July begins, Beijing is about to enter its flood season, and attacks of heavy rain and hail will severely affect the growth of crops, while agricultural insurance can put a protective coat on watermelons and other crops, safeguarding the interests of farmers.
According to Sun Weibo, deputy general manager of the agricultural insurance department of China United Property Insurance Beijing Branch, the current coverage rate of agricultural insurance in the Beijing area is relatively high, basically reaching around 70%. "Many farmers have a high degree of recognition for agricultural insurance; a very small premium is enough to safeguard farmers against economic losses."
According to official data from the China Insurance Regulatory Commission, last year China's agricultural insurance achieved premium income of 32.57 billion yuan, up 6.2% year on year. The data also showed that last year agricultural insurance business provided a total of 1.66 trillion yuan in risk protection, up 19.6% year on year; insured farmer households totaled 247 million household-times, up 15.7% year on year.
Sun Weibo said that currently there is both policy-based agricultural insurance and commercial agricultural insurance. Among them, policy-based agricultural insurance especially attracts farmers' attention. Taking the Beijing area as an example, "if the premium for one mu of land is 100 yuan, farmers only need to pay 10 yuan or 20 yuan, and once damage such as hail occurs, the compensation for one mu of land can reach about a thousand yuan."
It is understood that, taking watermelon cultivation insurance as an example, once natural disasters such as frost or hail occur, the insurance company will calculate the claim amount based on comprehensive factors such as the watermelon growth cycle, degree of damage and insured amount cost. Under normal circumstances, after insurance company staff take photos on site, the claim can be completed within 10 working days.
In fact, it is not only watermelons; insurance also provides protection for floriculture, live hog farming, aquaculture and other breeding industries. According to the open-field flower insurance clauses, losses caused by heavy rain, hail, wind disasters, drought and so on are all within the scope of compensation; while live hog price index insurance is a type of insurance that takes live hogs as the insured subject matter and the live hog price index as the insurance liability. During the insurance period, when the average live hog price index is lower than the price index agreed upon in the insurance liability, it is deemed that an insured event has occurred, and the insurance company gives compensation according to the agreement of the insurance contract.
