Correct methods of use and precautions for paraquat

Paraquat is a fast-acting, non-selective herbicide with contact action and a certain degree of systemic action. It can be rapidly absorbed by the green tissues of plants, causing them to wither and die. It has no effect on non-green tissues. In soil, it quickly binds to the soil and becomes deactivated, and it is ineffective against plant roots, perennial underground stems, and perennial roots. Paraquat is extremely toxic to humans, and there is no specific antidote; the mortality rate from oral poisoning can reach over 90%. It has currently been banned or strictly restricted in more than 20 countries.
Methods of use
1. Use in orchards, mulberry fields, tea gardens, rubber plantations, and forest belts: When the weeds have all emerged and are in the vigorous growth stage, use 100-200 ml of 20% aqueous solution per mu, dilute with 25 kg of water, and spray evenly over the weed stems and leaves. When the weeds grow to more than 30 cm, the dosage must be doubled.
2. Use in wide-row crop fields such as corn, sugarcane, and soybean: It can be applied before sowing or after sowing but before seedling emergence, or in the middle and late stages of crop growth, using protective directed spraying to control weeds between the rows. For pre-sowing or post-sowing pre-emergence treatment, use 75-200 ml of 20% aqueous solution per mu, dilute with 25 kg of water, and spray to control weeds that have already emerged. During the crop growing period, use 100-200 ml of 20% aqueous solution per mu, dilute with 25 kg of water, and apply as protective directed spraying between the rows.
3. Practical experience shows that paraquat has no obvious effect on Rehmannia glutinosa.
Precautions
1. Paraquat is a non-selective herbicide. When used in gardens and during the crop growing period, it must not contaminate crops, so as to avoid phytotoxicity.
2. Protective measures must be taken when mixing and spraying the pesticide: wear rubber gloves, a mask, and work clothes. If the liquid splashes into the eyes or onto the skin, rinse immediately.
3. When using it, do not allow the liquid to drift onto fruit trees or other crops. Vegetable fields must only be treated when no vegetables are present.
4. Spraying should be even and thorough. Adding 0.1% washing powder to the liquid can improve its adhesion. If rain occurs 30 minutes after application, the efficacy can basically still be guaranteed.
