Dichlorvos: target pests and usage precautions

Target pests

It is effective against pests with chewing mouthparts and piercing-sucking mouthparts. It can be used on vegetables, fruit trees and a variety of field crops.

1. To control imported cabbageworm, cabbage moth, turnip sawfly, cabbage aphid, cabbage webworm and tobacco cutworm, spray with 80% emulsifiable concentrate at 1500-2000 times dilution.

2. To control 28-spotted ladybird, oriental tobacco budworm, whitefly, cotton bollworm, diamondback moth, tiger moth and noctuid moths, spray with 80% emulsifiable concentrate at 1000 times dilution.

3. To control red spider mite and aphids, spray with 50% emulsifiable concentrate at 1000-1500 times dilution.

4. To control black cutworm, yellow squash beetle and striped flea beetle, spray with 80% emulsifiable concentrate at 800-1000 times dilution or drench the roots.

5. To control greenhouse whitefly, spray with 80% emulsifiable concentrate at 1000 times dilution; it controls both adults and nymphs. Spray once every 5-7 days, for 2-3 consecutive sprays, to bring the damage under control. Dichlorvos smoke formulation can also be used for fumigation as follows: seal the protected area and fumigate before finishing work in the evening, using 0.5 kg of 22% dichlorvos smoke formulation per mu. Alternatively, place sawdust in a flower pot, sprinkle on 80% dichlorvos emulsifiable concentrate, and add a few red-hot coal balls; use 0.3-0.4 kg of emulsifiable concentrate per mu.

6. To control bean pod borer, at the full flowering stage of cowpea (when 2-3 flowers are relatively concentrated), spray 80% dichlorvos emulsifiable concentrate at 1000 times dilution before 8 a.m. when the petals are open, focusing on buds, flowers, tender pods and fallen flowers, for 2-3 consecutive sprays.

Precautions

1. Seedlings of beans and cucurbits are prone to phytotoxicity, so the concentration used must not be too high.

2. Dichlorvos is highly toxic to humans and livestock and is easily absorbed through the skin, causing poisoning; do not apply it during the high temperatures at noon to prevent poisoning.

3. Stop using the product 7 days before harvesting vegetables.

4. Dichlorvos must not be mixed with alkaline pesticides.

5. Dichlorvos aqueous solution decomposes quickly, so it should be mixed and used immediately.

6. Poultry, fish and bees are sensitive to this product, so it should be used with caution.
