Applying growth regulators to peanuts has the effects of promoting strong seedling early growth, increasing pod number and weight, and achieving early maturity and high yield. The growth regulators currently used fall mainly into two categories: one is growth promoters containing substances such as micro-fertilizers and hormones; the other is growth inhibitors that control growth and prevent lodging.
1. Growth promoters
1. ABT4 or ABT8 rooting powder: use 0.05 g of ABT4 or ABT8 rooting powder per mu, dissolve it in 25 mL of alcohol (or strong liquor), then add 1 kg of water and mix with peanut kernels. It can also be combined with 50 g of 20% carbendazim wettable powder and 10 mL of 40% dimethoate emulsifiable concentrate per mu for seed treatment. Generally, pod yield increases by about 25 kg per mu, an increase of about 10%.
2. Huimanfeng: use 50 mL of Huimanfeng per mu, dilute with 50 kg of water, and spray on the leaves at the 6-leaf stage of peanut seedlings; spray a second time one week later. This can promote rapid expansion of the population and increase leaf area. At the 12-leaf stage, the leaf area index reached 3.66, 0.76 higher than the control; at maturity, the number of effective pods per plant increased by 1-1.2 compared with the control, and pod yield increased by 25.0-29.3 kg per mu, an increase of 11.1%-12.1%. 3. Zhonghua Penshibao: use 5 mL per mu each time, with the same method as Huimanfeng. At the 12-leaf stage, the leaf area index increased by 0.45 compared with the control, and the number of branches and underground pegs increased by 0.4 and 0.9 respectively; at maturity, the number of effective pods per plant increased by 0.5 compared with the control, and pod yield increased by 19.4-23.1 kg per mu, an increase of 8.1%-10.9%.
4. Plant Jianshengsu: use 30 g of Plant Jianshengsu per mu each time, dilute with 40-50 kg of water, and spray on the leaves at the early flowering stage, pegging stage and pod-setting stage. At maturity, 100-pod weight increased by 8-10 g, and pod yield increased by 15.7-22.5 kg per mu, an increase of 6.5%-11.6%.
2. Growth inhibitors
1. Paclobutrazol: use 50 g of 15% paclobutrazol wettable powder per mu, dilute with 50 kg of water, and spray evenly when peanut plant height is 33-35 cm and leaf age is 13-14 leaves. If heavy rain occurs within 6 hours after application, it must be sprayed again. After 3 days, leaf color deepens and leaves thicken; within 20 days, stems and branches no longer elongate, and the plants become robust and stocky. At the later stage, the lodging area decreased by 70% compared with the control, maturity was advanced by 3-5 days, the number of effective pods per plant increased by 0.8, 100-pod weight increased by 10 g, and pod yield increased by 34.0 kg per mu, an increase of 14.8%.
2. Uniconazole: use 30 g of 5% uniconazole wettable powder per mu, with the same method as paclobutrazol. After use, pod yield can increase by 33.3 kg per mu, an increase of 14.5%.
