Can shiitake mushrooms be cultivated with bamboo shavings?
What should be paid attention to when growing shiitake mushrooms? Please advise. Sometimes when growing shiitake mushrooms, the yield is very low or even there is a total crop failure, which seriously affects economic income and is a big blow to growers. The reasons for low yield and total crop failure in shiitake mushroom cultivation include the following. 1. Improper selection of the mushroom cultivation site, such as choosing a dark, poorly ventilated or unsanitary...
Can bamboo shavings be used to cultivate shiitake mushrooms? Please advise.Shiitake mushroom is a very special wood-rotting fungus. In production, broadleaf trees have always been used to cultivate shiitake mushrooms. Therefore, in shiitake mushroom production areas, broadleaf tree resources have decreased, and it is very necessary to develop and utilize non-broadleaf trees for shiitake mushroom cultivation. Our province is rich in bamboo resources, and the processing of bamboo products such as bamboo mats, bamboo chopsticks and bamboo flooring is well developed. The by-product of bamboo product processing plants, bamboo shavings, is rich in nutrients and easy to obtain, making it an ideal raw material for substitute substrate cultivation of shiitake mushrooms.
According to analysis, the cellulose and hemicellulose contents in the dry matter of bamboo shavings are both higher than those of miscellaneous wood sawdust, and the lignin content also exceeds that of miscellaneous wood sawdust.
The sawdust particles in the by-products of bamboo product factories are already relatively fine and can be directly sun-dried for later use. Bamboo slices, bamboo strips, bamboo filaments, etc. need to be processed into bamboo shavings with a grinder and sun-dried for later use. The suitable particle size of bamboo shavings is 1-1.5 mm.
Because bamboo shavings are hard in texture and high in lignin content, the mycelial growth speed of shiitake mushrooms and the decomposition and utilization speed of the bamboo shaving substrate culture material are slower than those of miscellaneous wood sawdust substrate, and the cultivation time is longer. Therefore, the cultivation season should be arranged in late winter and early spring, and the spawn should correspondingly select some medium- and long-age, medium-to-low temperature, late-maturing varieties, such as "241-4", "Qingyuan 9015", etc.
When bamboo shavings completely replace miscellaneous wood sawdust to cultivate shiitake mushrooms, the formula is: bamboo shavings 78%, bran 20%, brown sugar 1%, gypsum 1%, with moderate water content and natural pH, but mycelial growth with this formula is too slow.
When part of the miscellaneous wood sawdust is replaced with part of the bamboo shavings as the main material to cultivate shiitake mushrooms, the formula is: bamboo shavings 39%, miscellaneous wood sawdust 39%, bran 20%, brown sugar 1%, gypsum 1%, with moderate water content and natural pH. Mycelial growth with this formula is normal, the yield is also high, and the results are relatively ideal.
