What should you pay attention to when buying black fungus (wood ear mushroom) spawn?
How do you inoculate cultivated black fungus? Please advise. Inoculating wood ear mushrooms means introducing artificially cultured mycelium onto sun-dried and stacked ear logs, so that it develops and establishes itself inside the logs and grows fruiting bodies. This is the most critical step in the artificial cultivation of black fungus and a major technological innovation in production; it takes effect quickly,...
What should you pay attention to when selecting black fungus spawn? Please advise. When selecting black fungus spawn, pay attention to the following points:
Check the appearance. Check whether the label on the spawn bottle matches the black fungus spawn to avoid buying the wrong one. The culture time should be within two months; counting from the inoculation date, the spawn age should preferably be 30-40 days. Also check whether the bottle wall is cracked or the cotton plug has fallen out.
Check the mycelium. Spawn with pure white mycelium of high purity and thick, short, dense, uniform hyphae is high-quality spawn. If there are green, yellow, red, blue, or gray hyphae, it is spawn infected with contaminant fungi and must be discarded.
Check the ear base. Spawn with no light black ear base between the bottle wall and the substrate is excellent spawn; a small amount of ear base indicates normal spawn; if there is too much, the spawn has been subcultured too many times, and although it produces ears early and abundantly after inoculation, the ears do not grow large and the yield is relatively low.
Check the sediment. If there is no sediment on the bottle wall or only light brown gelatinous material, it is qualified spawn; if there is yellow-brown liquid, it is aged spawn and should not be purchased.
Check the spawn block. The surface of sawdust spawn is covered with mycelium, and the sawdust is no longer visible. When dug out, it is best if it comes out in a block rather than crumbling. If the spawn block has dried out and shrunk, it should not be used.
Check the smell. Remove the cotton plug; if you smell the fresh fragrance of spawn, it is qualified; if there is an off odor such as sour wine or musty stench, it is spoiled spawn and should not be used.
Use it properly. If the spawn has been cultured for too short a time or at too low a temperature, and the mycelium has not filled the whole bottle or has not grown into the interior of the sawdust, it should continue to be cultured at a suitable temperature before being used for inoculation. If spawn of the right age cannot be inoculated immediately after purchase, it should be stored indoors in a clean, dry place with dim light. Before inoculation, it is strictly forbidden to remove the cotton plug, and spawn that has been opened for inoculation should not be left overnight to prevent contamination by foreign fungi.
