Mushroom growth requires relatively more nutrients. If nutrients cannot be supplied in time, the fruiting bodies will grow poorly, especially in the later stage, and premature senescence may also occur. Especially when the compost quality is poor, with little manure and much straw, and the casing layer is thin, this will significantly affect yield and quality. Therefore, in the later stage of mushroom growth, timely and appropriate topdressing is beneficial for improving yield and quality.
However, topdressing mushrooms can only play a supplementary role. Attention must be paid to the effect, to prevent the breeding of contaminant fungi caused by improper topdressing. In addition, the concentration and amount of topdressing must also be controlled. Excessive concentration or excessive amount is unfavorable to mushroom growth.
Topdressing is generally carried out after the third flush of mushrooms is harvested, until the fruiting bodies of the next flush grow to the size of a soybean. After that, before harvest, topdressing is generally reduced or not carried out. When topdressing mushrooms, pay attention to the following five aspects:
1. Reasonable amount. Follow the principle of "small meals, more often"; otherwise, it will hinder the normal growth of the mycelium.
2. Appropriate timing. The purpose of topdressing is to provide nutrients for the propagation of the mycelium and the maturation of the fruiting bodies. Therefore, in terms of timing, it can be carried out after harvesting 2 to 3 flushes of mushrooms.
3. Choose fertilizer quality. It is best to select multiple fertilizers and apply them in rotation, especially for certain inorganic fertilizers with relatively single nutrients, rotation of topdressing is particularly necessary.
4. Eliminate sources of disease. Liquid fertilizer must not contain insect eggs or pathogens. The barnyard manure or manure and urine used must be fermented or decomposed, boiled or disinfected, to avoid the breeding of contaminant fungi and the occurrence of pests and diseases.
5. Coordinate fertilizer and management. Topdressing needs to be matched with other cultivation measures, and especially the improvement of compost quality must not be neglected. Only by appropriate topdressing on the basis of well-prepared compost can mushrooms achieve a better harvest.
