When cultivating oyster mushrooms in bags in summer, sometimes a large number of small mushrooms die after fruiting. The main reasons are the following four points, and preventive measures should be taken early.
Excessive temperature: After the primordia of oyster mushrooms form, if high temperature (above 30°C) continues, the caps will gradually wither, causing small mushrooms to die in large numbers. If the temperature is too high during the fruiting period, well water can be sprayed in the mushroom room to lower the temperature. For outdoor mushroom cultivation, the mushroom shed should be covered with thick straw curtains or rice straw for shade, and ventilation should be strengthened.
Lack of moisture: After the young buds of oyster mushrooms form, if the relative humidity of the air in the mushroom room or shed is below 80%, the small mushrooms will wither and die due to lack of water. After budding, water should be sprayed 4 to 5 times a day. When spraying, make it light, even, and fine, so as to keep the relative humidity at around 90%.
Excessive spraying: During the expansion period of the oyster mushroom fruiting bodies, too much spraying can easily cause edema, yellowing, and rotting, and also makes them prone to infection by pathogens and death. Therefore, when spraying water in the mushroom room (shed), spray the water on the ground and surrounding walls, and do not spray directly onto the fruiting bodies of the young mushrooms. At the same time, correctly control the amount of water sprayed, and do not spray too much.
Poor ventilation: When the carbon dioxide concentration in the mushroom room or shed exceeds 0.5%, it is easy to form large-foot mushrooms as big as a fist or with thick stems and small caps. Usually strengthen ventilation to ensure fresh air in the mushroom room (shed). This point requires special attention when temperatures are high.
