In summer, the following methods are used to increase oyster mushroom yield:
1. Stop watering and dry out. When the temperature stays above 30°C for 7-8 consecutive days, the already formed fruiting bodies stop growing, and the mycelium no longer knots or differentiates. At this point, watering should be stopped immediately so that the bed surface dries out and may even crack; afterward, spray clear water once every 15 days.
2. Tap the substrate and make holes. In late August, after the temperature drops, tap the substrate surface with a small bamboo pole to "startle the mycelium," then use a 20 mm diameter iron rod to make holes at 8-10 cm intervals, spray 1 ppm triacontanol solution into the holes, then splash the substrate surface once more so that 1-2 cm of water stands on it, and immediately cover with plastic film to promote mycelial growth.
3. Increase the temperature difference. After covering with film for 3-5 days, once the mycelium has sprouted, raise the film on the sunken bed so that the temperature inside the bed stays at 28-30°C. Around 3 p.m., cover with two layers of rice straw to keep warm; after 8 p.m., remove the straw curtains and plastic film to lower the temperature, creating a temperature difference of more than 10°C to stimulate the mycelium to knot and differentiate faster and form fruiting bodies.
4. Spray nutrient solution. In early autumn, after harvesting the first flush of mushrooms, remove the rhizomorphs and stop watering to rest the mycelium for 5-7 days. To increase the nutrients in the substrate, apply mushroom vigor enhancer or another nutrient solution once by splashing; after stopping watering for 2 days, manage as usual until mushrooms appear, then spray again at the mulberry stage.
