How do you choose wood ear mushroom spawn? What methods are there to identify whether wood ear mushroom spawn is good or bad? Please explain the methodsFor wood ear mushroom spawn selection methods, you can refer to the methods listed below:
1. Pay attention to the appearance: check whether the spawn bottle label matches the wood ear mushroom spawn to avoid buying the wrong one. The culture time should be within two months; counting from the inoculation date, the spawn age should preferably be 30-40 days. At the same time, check whether the bottle wall is cracked or the cotton plug has fallen off.
2. Pay attention to the mycelium: spawn with pure white mycelium and thick, short, dense, and uniform hyphae is high-quality spawn. If there are green, yellow, red, blue, or gray mycelia, then it is spawn infected with contaminating fungi and must be discarded.
3. Pay attention to the fruiting body base: if there is no light black fruiting body base between the bottle wall and the substrate, it is excellent spawn; a small amount of fruiting body base is normal spawn; if there is too much, then it has been subcultured too many times, and although it fruits early and abundantly after inoculation, the fruiting bodies do not grow large and the yield is relatively low.
4. Pay attention to sediment: if there is none on the bottle wall or only light brown gelatinous material, it is qualified spawn; if there is yellow-brown liquid, it is aged spawn and should not be purchased.
5. Pay attention to the spawn block: the surface of sawdust spawn is covered with mycelium, and sawdust is no longer visible. When dug out, it is best if it comes out in a block and does not crumble. If the spawn block has dried out and shrunk, it cannot be used.
6. Pay attention to the smell: remove the cotton plug; if you smell a fresh mushroom aroma, it is qualified; if there is an off odor such as sour wine or musty stench, then it is spoiled spawn and cannot be used.
Precautions for wood ear mushroom spawn:
1. If the spawn culture time is too short or the temperature is too low, and the mycelium has not filled the whole bottle or has not grown into the interior of the sawdust, it should continue to be cultured at a suitable temperature and then used for inoculation.
2. If age-appropriate spawn cannot be inoculated immediately after purchase, it should be stored indoors in a clean, dry place with relatively low light.
3. Before inoculation, it is strictly forbidden to pull out the cotton plug. Spawn that has been opened for inoculation should not be left overnight to prevent contamination by foreign fungi.
