The steps for cultivating black fungus in plastic bags are as follows:

Preparation of the fungus cultivation substrate:Cottonseed hulls 93%, wheat bran 5%, gypsum 1%, sucrose 1%, add water and mix evenly, the material-to-water ratio is 1:1.3~1.4.

Inoculation method for black fungus:Put the mixed culture material into polyethylene plastic bags, about 0.5~0.6 kg of dry material per bag, tie the bag opening well, then sterilize at normal pressure for 8~10 hours. After the cultivation bags cool down, inoculate according to conventional methods.

Cultivation of black fungus mycelium:After inoculation, culture at 22°C~25°C with an air relative humidity of 60%~70%. Keep the indoor light close to darkness to prevent premature formation of fruiting bodies, which would consume nutrients. Keep the indoor air circulating, open doors and windows 2~3 times a day for ventilation, 20 minutes each time. It takes about 45~50 days for the mycelium to grow throughout the whole bag.

Method for making holes in black fungus bags: After the mycelium has grown throughout, control the room temperature at 15°C~20°C. Two days before making holes, increase the indoor light intensity to stimulate the formation of fruiting bodies. Before making holes, wipe and disinfect the bag surface with a 0.1% formaldehyde solution, then use a small knife to gently cut through the film at the selected spots to form a rectangular fruiting hole. The fruiting holes are distributed around the plastic bag, generally 6~8 holes. Alternatively, use the knife tip to make a cross-shaped cut at the selected spots, with the cut line about 2 cm long.

Hanging bag cultivation method for black fungus: Set up shelves indoors, 80 cm wide, divided into 5~6 layers, with a layer spacing of 50 cm. Stretch 5 strands of No. 10 steel wire on each shelf layer, 20 cm apart, for hanging bag cultivation. Hang the plastic bags on the steel wires of the shelves, with about 15 cm between bags. Control the room temperature at 18°C~20°C, maintain the air relative humidity at about 85%, and be careful not to spray water directly onto the holes. After about 3~6 days, the fruiting bodies appear.

Management after the black fungus fruiting bodies emerge:From differentiation of the fruiting body to formation of the ear pieces takes about 3~4 days, and the air relative humidity must not be lower than 85%. From expansion of the ear pieces to maturity takes about 6~7 days; at this time the humidity should be raised to 90%, and ventilation should be strengthened. Before and after harvesting, water can be stopped for 1~2 days each time to facilitate harvesting and promote mycelium healing. After 7~10 days, to facilitate harvesting and the second flush, generally 5~6 flushes can be harvested.
