The morel is a rare wild mushroom. Because its cap surface is uneven and shaped like a sheep's stomach, it is named morel (sheep-stomach mushroom). Morels often grow in the humus soil under mixed coniferous and broadleaf forests dominated by poplar and birch trees, generally appearing in large numbers after rain from March to May. It has no special requirements for altitude. The optimum temperature for morel growth is 18-25°C, with an average daily temperature of around 12°C, which is a favorable temperature condition for morel occurrence.

When soil moisture content is below 40%, it is unfavorable for the growth of morel mycelium. When fruiting bodies appear in large numbers, the relative air humidity in the forest is about 80%, and the soil moisture content is generally 40%-50%. The suitable pH for morel growth is slightly higher than that of general fungi, with pH 7-8 being appropriate. Stimulation by weak scattered light is beneficial to the growth and development of morel fruiting bodies.
However, strong direct light has an adverse effect on the growth and development of morels. If drought occurs in early spring, water should be applied promptly to maintain soil moisture; otherwise, it will also seriously affect the occurrence of fruiting bodies. In short, ensuring the temperature and humidity of the morel growing environment in early spring is the key to successful cultivation.
